New here- Should a fella be buying heifers? Bred Heifers? or

I think our plan is heifers steal a calf off them and sell them as 3 year olds-- We are big believers in minerals your opinions are appreciated even if a few where bumbled replies-- ;-)

This is strictly my opinion but to sell a 3-year old that has not raised a calf would not create many repeat customers. 3-year olds are big and dumb and especially if they have never raised a calf. You wouldn't be doing anyone any favors. FWIW

No problem then.
We are old enough to remember way back when we calved 3-year olds that were first calf heifers. They were awful. Didn't want to be mothers and were so big they were hard to handle. That was back in 1964.

Where in Wyoming are you located?
 
dang sure sped up the production cycle--- I have a little wad of fancy cows that I had until 2 yo virgins hopping to get that year back on the other end and with big healthy calves--

I hope that works for you. What happens in this country is the heifers get too fat without a calf on them and their bags fill up with fat. They never milk to their potential after that. You'd find it hard to sell those fat 3 year olds in this country. It's been tried and people got burned. We are in a stong grass country and dry cattle tend to get really fat during the summer.

Anyhow, good luck to you. The market for bred cattle should support good prices!
 
Thanks- I dont put all my eggs in one basket-- but this ungrazed ranch landed in my lap on two week notice- I hate to see that grass standing empty while I make a plan--- have leased a bit for 90 days to defray some costs---- appreciate the input and good points on the fat virgins-- dad always said there was a reason why--- ;-)
