well I returned from the big tour at Hesston..... they let us look at most everything, except their top secret kill them if they see it building.

they have dramatically improved the balers, and I think we will be switching over from New Holland to Hesston. VERY cool seeing them built from the ground up. I got a couple pics, but they were pretty upset I took them. so I pretended I was on the phone and snapped them with the camera phone! ( yes....I felt like James Bond, only I drive a Ford, there was no martini, and a serious lack of hot women)

the biggest shock I received, was seeing about 100 New Holland balers there! Hesston builds the New Holland 4x4 baler!! I have never seen one anywhere, so it never occurred to me. BUT there they were for all the world to see! really blew our minds!

Case IH, New Holland and Hesston are all owned by the same company and a lot of the parts are interchangeable. I have my Case IH baler at the Hesston dealership because they have the best balerman in the country around here. Also they order the parts direct from the same place as the Case IH dealer so no extra charge.
Are you just looking at 4x4s or are you considering 3x4s also? What kind of prices are they asking?

Uhm.. Sure about that Cowboyup? hesston is owned by the Agco corporation While Case IH and New Holland are owned by, well New Holland....

Doesn't mean that Heston doesn't make all the big Square ballers for Case and NH but they aren't all owned by the same company.

when CNH formed , they had to sell out the interest in Hesston. so the older ones were the same, but now they are different.

we are going 3x4. I think it was $93,000 list. but they are getting a pile of crap on a trade.....

from what we saw today, New Holland can not hold a candle to this new machine. the tests in Idaho were pretty good....baling hay at 13 mph!!!

Well that makes sense.. I think New Holland had to ditch their share of Versitile as well or something like that... Not a player around here really... It is strange how many of these companies balers are made by other companies. Vermeer had that big Square for a while that they got from Massey I think but than they scraped it.. Can't remember exactly, the Vermeer dealer told me about it when I was talking to him..

93k for a baler.. Yikes.. But if you are going to truck them any distance I guess it makes sense as they sure do stack better. I still love the one I saw that was a self propelled large square baler. Took a Combine frame and had the baler attatched to it somehow. Pretty neat machine but it was a one of a kind type thing.. Probably a few around here and there.. Had a good road speed is all I really remember about it.

Cowboyup is right. Agco bought Case New Holland a few years back. It wasn't publicized much, and not really mentioned in their literature. It surprised me at the time because it means only 2 main tractor producers, John Deere and Agco.

Aaron.. I don't think so.. CNH Global is still traded as an independant company on the NYSE and every article on line lists them as independant of anyone but themselves.. Now, there are mentions of CNH global selling of their shares of Hesston and Masey to AGCO.

I think where the confusion may lie is that Case-IH used to have an arrangement whereby Hesston made their haying equipment for them. This arrangement took them through the purchase of Case-IH by NewHolland but now NewHolland makes most if not all of the Case-IH (CNH) haying equipt. Alot of the Deere baler design was very similar to Hesston technology at one time. Not sure about now.

NewHolland and Deere have the majority of the baler market up here although I am looking forward to seeing the new Hesston.

I noticed the new round balers at the Agco dealer are the hesston series by massey ferguson. Not sure what thats about?

that is how ours will be tagged. an AGCO baler, with a Massey desal.

tried to get a shot of the finished product, but they were pretty cranky about the camera so I never got one.....but here are a few I did get. this is the small square just starting down the line, looks pretty nekkid!

this is a 4x4 right before they start putting on the skin. it is all timed up and ready to go.

this is the New Holland 4x4 they make. as we drove through the lot, the guy who led us through said to not stop, because the security guys will be on you real fast...I guess they have some "borrowing with no intent to return" issues

No there are pretty much 3 main lines. John Deere, AGCO, and CNH. AGCO consists of White, Gleaner, MF, Sunflower, Hesston, AGCO tractor, New Idea, Deutz, Allis Chalmers, Fendt, Fiat, and also the challenger line. The combines are all built on about the same platform with the rotor in the gleaner sitting crosswise and the rotor in the massey and challengers running the length of the combine. This year you will see balers with MASSEY in big letters and Hesston directly below in smaller letters. I prefer AGCO products and run a Sunflower Notill drill and a white planter. Case still makes it's own tractor as well as New Holland. I still don't know if I'll ever change over from my JD balers though.

All I know about the challenger line is that, at least around here, they are a pain the arse because you have to deal with a Cat Dealer and they are all an hour away and really don't deal with too many of the ag products.. There are something that an AGCO dealer has but they don't even have access to the parts for Challenger tractors. We had to replace the coolant recovery tank on the POS Challenger that we have. the local AGCO dealer just couldn't do it... I guess they are working on getting parts rights at those dealers which would make my life so much more pleasent with a dealer 8 minutes from here... Oh well, I digress except to say, when the FIL tells you he has a great deal on a Cat tractor, don't believe him, lol.... Oh wel, I can't complain about price...
