Although I like fuzzies, this bull might go above and beyond just hair balls. He has some real dimension and body, but the owner I talked to said they put him at about 6 frame. Sired by an Angus bull, and 78 BW. If I get really high on him, I might go for breeding some heifers to this guy.

He is kinda neat alright...... But I wouldn't touch the angus side of him with a ten foot pole....

For AM, hydro, etc? 1680 is back there a ways and it looks like this bull's SIRE is AMF and NHF, which I know means AM free and I think Hydro Free. I would have no qualms with this fella, especially since we have no females even remotely related to 1680 or his sire. Plus, this bull has some Char on the bottom, and Full Flush, where the Chi comes from, is both TH and PHA free. Even if this bull isn't tested, the probability of him producing defective calves is pretty slim.

MYT, why would you consider using that Smokey bull?
I'm assuming for feeder calves, correct?
I don't see much maternal there, so it would not be
for keeping females. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
And I'm not being smart, I am interested in knowing.

(I went back and looked, you are wanting to breed him to
heifers. You couldn't pay me enough to use that bull on
heifers..FWIW).

Why FH???
I'm wondering if it's the same reason I wouldn't......

Hey FH, check yer inbox. Well, normally, I wouldn't think of using a bull like this on heifers. And, considering I'm probably going to be breeding for hair balls anyhow, I might just use him on some mature cows.

What color of cows???

Blue roan. They need to go, but maybe being bred to this bull they can go for a little more $$.

Shorthorn??? What color would the calves then be??

Well, AngusXShorthorn. Wild color, I'm sure. Maybe a grey roan? :D Anything eye catching in the show ring is worth just that much more.

Did you see the bull I posted??? No comments??

Hey, katrina, don't worry about the welfare of the rest of me herd. The black ones and registered ones are probably getting bred to this fella.

I wasn't worried..... I was asking for my own knowledge... I was interested that's all..... Sorry I asked

Thought it looked like that. He is a tank.
I saw that bull in person. He's short to the
ground, but full of meat and had lots of length.
He was a frame score 2.9 I think Kit said and he weighed
1900 lbs. He wasn't as mature then as he is now.

So, MYT, why did you pick this bull?

He looks OK. He doesn't fit what we are trying to do at home, but he should work for some.
The white bull is kind of a unique choice (see comment above).

I think I'm going to start my own composite "breed". :D

I'll start with Hereford for the thicker hide and hair.
Next cross in a Jersey for richer milk.
A little Chianina for jumping windfalls and neighbor's fences.
Limo and Saler to make them fleeter of foot to run from predators.
Longhorn, Brahman, and EXT for fight if they can't run fast enough.
Terminal cross to a Black Simmental so they will qualify for CAB.

Did I cover enough bases?

That white bull should have been in a steer class himself.

Hey MYT--I was looking at the pedigree of the Ohlde/Pharo bull and see the AAA pedigrees no longer say DNA marker typed-- It has now been changed to Parentage: Microsatellite....

Pretty fancy terminology... Must make them worth more-eh ? :???:
