New to the Angus business - seeking input

As I am new to the angus business, I am considering doing some local marketing with pictures of my own herd. Input would be appreciated on the pictures posted.

I few questions I had in my own mind; Are the cattle marketable? Are the pictures good enough to use or should I take a picture of them in their "cleaner clothes"? Was the sunlight at about the right angle? Should I take pictures when they are a different age? Should I avoid using them altogether?

I use Photo bucket myself but some on here know how to put larger ones on from the gallery. It has been explained but i am sure if you can find out post a thread about it and somebody will help you.

Click on your photo to enlarge. At the bottom there is the thumbnail address and under that there is an icon of some sort. Maybe it's a TV or Computer screen, too small for me to know. Click on it and there will be some more choices of addresses. Paste from the Medium one and post over to the tread the same as what you did. It's just that easy!!! :?

The cattle look pretty good. When you say "Market" them. Are you talking as purebreds, or fatten for grass, commercial breeding stock?

There of lots of good cattle unless you fit the commodity market you need to find a niche.

A majority of my herd is purebred angus and my goal is to market seedstock; primarily bulls and maybe expand into commercial breeding stock somewhere down the line. My goal is to start small, keeping only the best bulls and in quantities that can easily be sold. I kept back three bulls from the 08 calf crop and was fortunate enough to sell all three.

My approach though is to run my herd like a commercial operation. I'm not spending big bucks on the stock in my own herd and don't have the reputation to move large numbers of animals, so to remain profitable I must be able to keep the banker happy assuming most will be sold as feeders or fattened with retained ownership. Each bull that I sell is just that much more profit than was budgeted for! I do retain my own heifers as well, but that isn't really very different from a commercial operation.

My whole herd cost me less than a select 2 or 3 animals from some local breeders' herds. After attending a local bull sale I also realized that I got as much for my bulls as others did for bulls out of those $15,000+ cows.

I do synchronize and AI cows that are at least 50 days post-calving and the heifers before turning out the bull for the remainder of the breeding season.

Those one's look way better than those dwarfs you posted earlier. :wink: Your welcome, I struggled with posting pics too. I had a few folks help me along the way as well. There are a few seedstock producers here that fatten their cull hfs and bulls for the restaurant market and a couple have their own butcher shops. There are plenty of opportunities out there if you let your mind wander.
