It's over 300,000 acres now, calling it 5% contained.
Petroleum county is one of smallest population--maybe 400?--and poorest counties in the U.S. Other small counties have looked at them to see how they operate. 'County manager'--low overhead, people wear many hats. Looks desolate maybe to some--hang out there and it's special beauty and wildlife grow on you.
The Ross school was the only log built sod roof school house still functioning--last time I was at it, which was many yrs.....heard the hall next to it burnt down.
