North of hiway 200 on fire

Help Support Ranchers.net:

That is just so sad. They said they didn't know what started it. I hope terrorists aren't doing this. That would make a terrible situation worse. Not sure they think about the West, but who knows?

I hope they can contain it SOON. God bless the firefighters!

Last time I talked to sw he was coming to Arkansas . I figured head hunters in Little Rock ate him. Tell him hello

as of 8'30pm, it's over 200,000 acres.

had one blow up here the other day---guys 40 yr old fighting it by hand in the breaks. wind shifting repeatedly. had a chat with them in the bar later-----'we risk a lot to save a lot----we risk a little to save a little....' grass, trees and rocks ain't worth your life----this coulda been bad--adrenalin and tunnel vision----situational awareness---somebody needs to be watching the weather----and late afternoons on some of these, you can feel==and see---that things can go very bad, very quickly....

It's over 300,000 acres now, calling it 5% contained.

Petroleum county is one of smallest population--maybe 400?--and poorest counties in the U.S. Other small counties have looked at them to see how they operate. 'County manager'--low overhead, people wear many hats. Looks desolate maybe to some--hang out there and it's special beauty and wildlife grow on you.

The Ross school was the only log built sod roof school house still functioning--last time I was at it, which was many yrs.....heard the hall next to it burnt down.

billings paper has it @ 300,000 acres, 5% contained, this morning

here's another link with pictures, video (taylor brown, you might have heard on the radio--he grew up by sand springs

You're welcome, FH~~

Here's a video of a good ol' boy from downtown Sand Springs area. Sand Springs is basically a wide spot, the guy who had the store liked to fly and would deliver you parts with his plane. I stopped there maybe 15 yrs ago, shelves were pretty much empty, his widow was keeping the doors open, it sounds like maybe it's still going--I dunno. But good video.
