Lacrosse. Box Lacrosse was created to make use of hockey rinks in the off season. I like the fact the rinks are warm and my boy likes how aggressive it is. It is a game not unlike basketball in strategy and rugby in roughness. We had a two game preseason warm up in the Calgary East Soccer-dome yesterday.

My son likes the fact that crosschecking (done properly) is allowed.

In between periods there is no need to go warm up in the dressing room. Besides the fact that in this facility there are eight regulation sized fields and two small practice fields so the hallways are busy.

The second game was in the bubble annex.

Their goaltender. Yikes.

The boys turned on the Heat but lost 2 to 1 in an excellent game.

My boy got our only goal with this shot on a breakaway.

Emily was playing hockey all weekend in the Calgary East twin arenas-I wish we'd could of had lacrosse in Meadow Lake but I guess nobody to get it started-it looks like a great game. We played one game in Airdrie what a well run facility that is-kudos to whoever is involved with it.

It is amazing how fast lacrosse and soccer have taken off with the kids now, girls and boys. They may just take over hockey soon.. :P

Anything to get them out and moving all year round is a good thing, also learning sportsmanship will be utilized for the rest of their lives.

Lacrosse is fairly popular in town here too. I think one could end up with a few welts at the end of a game?

Congrats to your son. He sounds like a gamer!

I wondered where your rink was NR. We weren't too far apart. I grew up on hockey but Lacrosse is cheaper for the parent, rough enough but no fighting. Lifetime league suspension for fighting. Lots of bruises but the smaller kids and our girls avoid the big kids with speed and skill. Hockey is pricing it's self out of popularity. That is why Lacrosse and soccer have surged in popularity. That and they are fun to play. My son has dropped soccer for Lacrosse and uses hockey to get into condition for it.

Ty would of played it but the clposest was 100 miles away-he just couldn't play every sport lol. Emily had a good tourney we beat the Calgary team that beat us in Lloyd and the BC Selects-had some troubles with our provincial rivals though. She got MVP in one game on Saturday. I'd of went and watched lacrosse if I'd known.

Glad you had a good tourney. Our boys might be intimidated by some of those country teams. Us agriculture types are few and far between here. Ty would have been good at it. I like the fact that checking is allowed in the house (a big crease out front) even when they don't have the ball. We call it cleaning the house.
