We seem to be attracting an ever increasing number of nuts, whackos and single issue posters that have never been involved in ranching in any way.

Most bulletin boards have an "ignore user" feature. Where you can pick particular members and put them on ignore. You can no longer read any of their posts. All that shows up is:
So-and-So: This user is on your ingore list. Click here to read this post.
You're going to have a difficult time coming up with criteria that seems fair to all so far as banning offenses. An ignore feature would be easier in that it still rests with the individual members who they wish to read and who they don't.

Maybe the ignore thing might help BUT you don't know it until you've read some of the posts...I just think its too bad some of these people that really have no interest in ranching,and are only here to cause problams have free rein..... I don't know whats right but I like the ban idea :?

Macon, what is it that you are trying to protect? Children? I doubt if kids read the stuff that you are thinking about. There is plenty of other stuff that gets posted here on Coffee Shop that I pass over and would not like to have my kids exposed to.
Adults? Heck, if they are so threatened by what gets posted here, maybe they should stick to reading the Sunday funnies.
I think that the responses to some posters on any part of this forum are a pretty good indicator of the maturity level of the respondants. If people lack the self-control to keep from reading, or responding to, posts by those they don't like or agree with, you will never be able to censor this board hard enough to mask the lack of maturity and civility that resides in the users here or on any other forum.
If we don't practice self-control, then someone else is obliged to do it for us.

Macon, I really have mixed feelings on this issue.
I believe strongly in free speech, yet that should not be a license for character assination, lying in order to deceive, or attempts at intimidation of others.
The very lengthy ans sometimes rather incoherent rants by some who have an agenda are tiresome.
Overall, it seems to me you have handled it well, for which I thank you!
The new system will be an improvement and worth waiting for, IMO.
Now, how long before we can have a lie detector?????

LMAO...well being right behind Soapweed, might keep me safe. Not a bad charachter to be behind. I have cast my vote for my voice. Now, as for as my real oppinion....there will always be wackos and nuts, just the ones that are out to hurt someone personally without care are the ones I feel need to be crusified. And, I have seen where this is a hard crowd to please :wink: . I try to keep most of my oppinions to myself.

It's just a fact of life that the foundation principle of the WWW is that it's a free cyberworld out there. Wackos and nutcases are going to show up. That's a given. It happens on every site. One site I used to visit even had assistant Janitors who had the power to delete posts. It worked very well, because between the bunch of us, the really nasty stuff wasn't there for long. And if a troublemaker kept coming back and finding no trace of their post, and no response, they quite hanging around pretty quickly. They are there to get a response, and if they don't get one, they move on.
My opinion is that if something lewd and disgusting shows up, trash it. If it's just something plain old stupid, we can have a chuckle, and then ignore it. 8)
