NWSS 2014: Bases Loaded Sale

At those prices they will never have to live like a momma cow or even prove they can-- they'll probably just end up as embryo donors in someone's multiplying program ...

Not a true image of their maternal abilities... :(

i hear that auctioneer a lot and can't quite get use to his sound. sometimes i wonder if he's going to make it to the end of the sale. :?

That's old Lynn Weishauer (Sorry if I butchered the last name) he has sold a lot of cattle over the years. It gets even worse if he gets excited poor guy looks like he could fall over between bids. I believe it is his son Seth that also sells there is a man I could listen to all day.

Denny that's what the show guys like fat all the way to the heart

"Feed" doesn't change genetics. Most show cattle are structurally correct, have good dispositions, and are easy fleshing.

Just like all other cattle, some work well and some don't.

If a heifer becomes an embryo donor and her calves don't work, she'll be a dud, as the truth always comes out later. But it won't be because she was fed well.

No, those particular heifers in that sale may not be able to perform in our pastures but their offspring just might.

There's as good or better genetics walking thru salebarns all over north america that can be had for alot less. Having AI'ed my cows now for around 15 years I can tell you this those GREAT one's are'nt that GREAT.

Smoke and mirrors create an elusion of something great. Great sales pitch and rich people throwing money aroud does'nt make great cattle.

No argument from me. But if you can argue that feed changes an animal's genetics, I'd like hear it.
