Dad and I were out putting out mineral and hooking you a solar pump for a package of PB cows and calves.

You better frame those photos Big Muddy, it might be awhile to when your country is green at the first of July again.

Calves look like "Knock Outs" just like their brands imply. :D

My first thought was KC and the Sunshine band.

Every thing is right on track for putting some pounds on those strapping calves. My 77 year old Dad likes to work with the cows too.

Thanks for the shots of the Lilies. Western Wood Lilies, one of my all time favorite wild flowers.:D

Pasture looks great! Spear grass is heading out?

What kind of solar pump unit are you using?

What kind of fence are going to build around the dugout?

The lilies are my favorite as well. The right year and we can have fields of them in the pasture. All the grass is heading, won't be able to use the dogs for a while because of the spears.
The pump is a smaller Cap solar from Olds. One 12 volt battery pumps for 30 pairs. We use a couple of double 12's on bigger pumps for the big bunch. I don't fence the dugouts. If the pump fails I want them able to drink and if the pumps working most of them prefer the pumped water.

The KC brand came with a place Dad bought in the fifties. The man's name was Jack Canute and Dad always said the KC stood for King Canute.
The ranch is the Circle Y but Dad used the brand and my kids use the brand so I use the KC.

The spear grass is why I prefer the slick Border Collies that need to wear a coat in the winter. :-)

Pump failure can be an issue. The neighbor had yearlings go 4 or 5 days with out water last year , not a pretty picture!

Canute is not a common name, I would guess? Here in Tipperary country, Yakima Canute was the first to make a qualified ride on Tipperary. I wonder if he hailed from your neck of the woods then. That was back in the early 20s. I think. I hate to think I would have to get up and walk all the way to bookcase and look that up. :D

I never heard that he was a relative of the this Canute. Jack was was from Alabama and came to this country working for ranchers before starting his own place.

Now I know I need glasses!

Seems like if he can't check his pumped water more than once in 4 or 5 days he might be better off to find a less burdensome hobby.

Regarding the KC brand and it's origins...my older brother Lyle told me dad took the last letter of his first name (Jack) and the first letter of his last name (Canute) to make his brand.

Sorry I missed you when you stooped in to visit the gallery last week. I was in the house having lunch, Tam has tours just about everyday and I meet some of them as I am coming and going through the yard but I think I was up early baling and had a siesta in the recliner that day.
Did you remember living on this place down here or just the place near Big Beaver?

Hi there. I would have liked to have met you but the bus was ready to leave and I had to go too but I did meet your dad and daughter though. I was born in 1951 so I don't know for sure if I ever lived on the ranch...I don't think I did as I only remember the farm a half mile south of Big Beaver.

I was quite surprised to find out you still use dad's brand and continue to refer to his old ranch as the Canute place; it's kinda nice. Thanks.

Tam gave a great talk on the history of the outlaws and I never really got to thank her for that, so please thank her for me.

Mace
