Somebody left a gate open and about 30 pairs were in the meadow. So I get my brothers 4 wheeler and Sue and I head down into the meadow I drop her off in one field and I go to the next .We have them going good and I drove over along a ditch where we saw a rocket that my brother had fired off yesterday. It was about ¾ of a mile from his house. I picked it up and took off to head the cows back toward the gate…..There was this ditch about 4 feet wide and a couple feet deep, My thoughts were this is going to hurt… Both me and the 4 wheeler end up on the other side. Me on the ground jammed my left hand and shoulder and the handle bars made a deep bruise on the inside my right thigh from the knee to the crotch…. Ibropropen and ice packs

I remember one of those moments about 19 years ago. My brother, Lyle and I had moved some bulls to another pasture and as we were coming back, at the top of the hill overlooking the place, old Prince, as usual, wanted to go on a dead run to the barn. A gate at the bottom of the hill was thrown part way open around some tall weeds. Prince was heading right for the wire of the gate and the weeds. Nothing would slow him up. What was I thinking? I was thinking about a cartoon I once saw of a cowboy on a horse going over a cliff, and he was hollering "Whoa, you S.O.B., Whoa!" We hit the gate, I flew off, landing on my stomach, and wondering where the horse was, turned over and he was cross wise to me with his feet straight in the air. I doubled up my legs and pushed him in the belly, rolling him the other way. Both the horse and I walked the rest of the way home.

  My daughter might disagree with you. She got bucked off a 4yr old that she's rode for 2 years. Never bucked before but sure did yesterday morning. She is a little sore but nothing broke and she'e back on the same horse. :-)

I'll pass your message on to "Lil 'Miss Muddy"

LOL, I was thinking about this statement the other day..Let me preface it by saying I do suscribe to the sentiment...

But,

Nobody ever got in a Horse Wreck, eh?

I like to use horses. A good horse is the best way to get a cow, but I would never reccommend them as a way to avoid wrecks! Good luck on the shoulder surgery. I have had two shoulders worked on. One damaged in the shop, the other by a cow and gate. The only thing about shoulder surgery is remember that the therapy is as important as the surgeon. It is painful, but the key to good use later on. Mine was two years ago, and I still pull rubberbands now and then when a catch develops so keep your bands and pulleys.

Was supposed to have my left shoulder worked on 6 years ago after a cow worked me over on some ice that spring. But 2 weeks before the surgery I fell if a combine and caught my self with my right arm. The next morning we were shipping lambs and I fell out of the pickup after lifting the 5th wheel ball, right on my back. After a day of lifting and pushing lambs my right arm didn't work pushing, so the doctor cut it all opened , and cut off bone and torn cartilage and stretched tendons and sewed them back…never missed a PT session best part was the ultra sound meant the hurting part was over for the day.
