Check out page six of the sinclaircattle.com semen catalogue-about the only bull doesn't have the EXT curse in his pedigree-Tyler says he'll shoot the next one on our place lol. Nothing like those toady little wildies in a set of grass cattle keeping the pot stirred.
 
They are dealt with got the 100 plus I had culled and the 700 straws of semen I put up on a son is dumped-definately the most overrated,over used bull in the Angus breed. Emulation 31 was a man killer too so just linebreed the shirt out of him. A friend of mine went to look at him when he was ancient-crippled on one hip-he waddled across the pen and tried to get him through the gate. Trust me two or three of the worst got calved out by my winchester vet at calving time. When they are crazier than my brahmer rodeo cows that's not cool. He threw good udders I'll give him that.
 
A breeder down here tried the Emulation 31 cattle and her remark
was "they have rocks in their head." Didn't take her long to weed
them out~or they weeded themselves out.

Who needs bad tempered cattle?

We used RR Traveler 5204 on heifers and kept the heifers out
of him. They were mean too, and we sold them the fall they raised
their first calf and we never went back...the heifers looked really
good too, and they raised good calves. But as Mr. FH said, "we
don't need those kind on this ma and pa outfit."

No help needed its dealt with-not into propping up shitty cattle-thgats why our heifers sell about 30% over market-people know they won't be babysitting them-good return on a few rifle shells.

Page 7 has a couple too-- Rito Legacy 3R9 and Sinclair 20/20- altho 20/20 has Papa Forte behind him (which I heard was not a sweet fella)...

I don't know that much- nor have I heard that much about Rito Revolve, altho with the Rito 707, combined with the Jorgenson breeding on the bottom he has the potential....

You know the Legacy son I have- that has EXT as a maternal great grand sire is a very quiet easy to handle bull...No pet- but definitely quieter than many I've had....And the calves he's sired have been really easy dispositioned too so far....
 
The only ones that ran with the brahmers were the ones that had proved themselves badass in the cowherd. Not saying they are all bad but I'll be damned if I'll sell a heifer or a bull to anybody with the potential. We sell our heifers with a full garantee-any problems she gets replaced-only one so far-the vet misread her due date. We offer to buy the heifer calves back the next year at steer price but so far nobody will part with them. I can't afford to deal with sketchy genetics like that. We had one Ext steerr left on grass this year wouldn't come in with the bunch-Ty roped him and he laid down and died-the bad ones are completely nuts-I've run alot of different cattle on cattle and they are by far the worst-half dozen of them jackrabbiting around in a big bunch of yearlings running gain off gets pretty damn old. Love them up but when one camps on your wife or kid out checking cows you'll catch my drift. Ask Hanta Yo what that feels like.

if that was to happen, yes she would be gone! that goes for any cow on this place. as far as dispostion goes, i would consider mine some of the best, and that includes the EXTs. maybe they are going to get worse with age, time will tell. some of my EXTs are a bit more concerned when i'm tagging, but none of them have ever got close enough to get snot on me. and no, thats not because they are a mile away with thier head in the air. i don't plan on using any more EXT because i feel i've got some good ones in the herd, and i'll quit while i'm ahead. i know there are some bad ones...but don't keep telling yourself that there aren't any good ones, because there are.
 
Were useing sinclair extra pretty heavy here so far so good. I wonder if wild living conditions don't help influx your cows behavior. If you leave them run out in the wild without much human relations why would you expect them to be people friendly.I've bought bred heifers that come off a big place that had only ever seen a feeder wagon and a tractor they were plenty wild thats for sure.They are 10 now and a couple are still that way but for the 3 or 4 days a year that I have to handle them it's of no concern to me.Of course good working facilities make all the differance.
 
It's all relative if 95 percent of your cows are quirt as dead pigs no reason for the other 5% to be crazy-I guess I had too many of them if I'd only had ten and they were great I'd probably love him too. Our handling pens are six foot high steel and are the ones we run the broncs and bulls through. I should of took a pic of loading out the last one-she was in a pen with a brangus cow-the EXT was crawling the walls and the brahmer was just standing around waiting to be loaded. Plenty of bulls out there will do everything he does but wthout that'X' factor.

My dad raised registered Hereford bulls for about 45 years. I have packed my fair share of feed in gunny sacks over my shoulder to put in bunks for these bulls. We ground a lot of oats and ear corn through first a hammermill and later through a Bearcat grinder-mixer. Dad would get many truckloads of ear corn hauled in each winter, and the pile would stretch for probably sixty or seventy yards. He looked at it as part of a winter's feed supply. Me, being the flunky but also the realist, looked at the large pile as a lot of work for me and the hired hand. Every ear of that corn had to be handled with a scoop shovel in grinding it, and then bucketed and sacked so it could be fed. Besides being hard work, it was also a dusty job. Grinding the oats was dusty and terribly itchy. I don't miss those days one bit.

The point of this oration is that when the bulls were bunk fed, they stayed very gentle. One year Dad bought three large-capacity creep feeders (I think each feeder held eight tons of feed). That year he bought commercial feed with a limiter, and put the bulls in three good-sized pastures on self-feed grain and all the good summer grass they could eat. Our human contact with these bulls was not much, and only to run them through the squeeze chute for various reasons including putting hornweights on and taking them off. :roll: That fall, when the eighteen-month old bulls were sold through the ranch salebarn, they were the wildest bulls we'd ever worked with. Sad to say, the next year we went back to hand feeding them just to keep them gentle.

i'm not in-love with mine, just don't hate them. and i agree with you about having plenty of other options without EXT infuence. like i said, i'm not using any more of him, mainly because i don't want to have to eat my words later on. but to be honest, if thier attitudes do change, you will be the last to know about it. i will not allow you to say "i told you so" :twisted: :P :wink:
 
I think Soapweeds point is right on. I believe I can walk or ride throught a mans cattle and tell a lot about him. I have some EXT cows and buy more when I have the chance. I like 'em. I am 68 now and me and my wife work them and get along fine.
