Opinion on truck?

Great truck as long as you dont need anything dependable..
three injector pumps and two major oil leaks before 75K miles on a 97'
Had a buddy with one to , only his was a 5 speed. When he pulled his three horse trailer in the summer the hydrolic fluid for the clutch would get so hot he would loose his clutch until it cooled off. We spent a lot of days drinking a cold one waiting on his truck to cool off. Guy at the Chevy house told us to insulate the hydrolic line next where it runs close to the exaust , we taped a beer can on it and it was fine...
BTW , we have both owned Chevys since then...

i work as a service advisor at a garage let me tell you from experience that if you are buying a deisel truck unless it is making you money by hauling loads or pulling trailers feeding cattle everyday it will not pay for itself. repairs are alway more when it comes to a deisel. harder on the front suspension due to the added weight. if you are looking for a chick magnet or trying to impress people that won't pay too many high priced repair bill. and with an older truck there will be repair bills no matter what brand you are driving ford, dodge, chevy.

What good is a ' chick magnet' if you're too broke from larger truck pmts, repair bills, or maintenance bills and don't have any money to spend on HER!!

Take it from a woman.....that's the much bigger issue!!!!

Truck payments? Oh yea. I forgot about those. I used to have some of those back in the 80's. Been paying for things since then.

Money for my lady is not an issue. We invested wisely. Now she has 6 gas wells of her own too.

I took a Chevy 6.5 diesel 240K. Fuel pumps are an issue. There is an yarn out there on the web about taking the electronics out of the pump assembly and putting it in the front of the truck, then remotely wiring to the pump. Somehow it is the heat that kills the elctronics. I know a guy who did that and he has take his truck over 200K on the pump. He has rigged lots of pumps for other folks now.

I bought a Ford 1-ton 4WD and it has done okay. First Ford for me. I bought many a Chevy truck but they ticked me off. We'll see how the Ford goes. I pull a lot of trailers and equipment.

I've run them all from 6.2 Chevys to the Powerjokes and the Cummins. I ran a 6.5 to over 200,000 miles with NO engine troubles but TONS of front-end trouble. The 6.2 was about the same - good engine but lots of transmission problems. I won't even tell you about my experiences with Ford pickups, (gas and diesel both) I'll just say I'll never have another one. The Cummins has by far been the most reliable, had the least mechanical problems, and been the most abused by me. I've thought about going to a Duramax for the even better warranty now, and the cab, etc... but I don't think I'll give up the reliability of the Dodge. As far as I know, the mileage sucks on ALL of them.

I tried the Dodge. Front end was gone in less than 50K. Cummins puts to much weight on the front I guess. Probably not a problem if you use it as a city truck. I am dragging trailers through miles of pasture. No motor or tranny problems. Didn't last long enough to have any.

i've never been a fan of the Chevy 6.5 motor.. too many horror stories about them.. either you get a good one or you get a bad one. A couple of things come to mind when i hear your explanations. If you are buying a diesel because you want it to haul all the time then a 1/2 ton truck will never last. Secondly you commented about chevy's being cheaper to buy... supply and demand is my only reply to that.... no one wants those 6.5 trucks. JMHO
