there is a cave that all these sea lions spend the winter months in, but the weather hadn't gotten bad enough yet, so they were hanging out on this cliff and below in the water

OOOhh! Thank you Yanuck. That reminds me of the first time I saw the ocean. It was in Washington about the same time of year. I thought I would freeze to death with the moist cold air blowing in land.

Awesome tour. When we were at that museum they had yet to get the 747 on top. Those girls look like they were having plenty of fun.

What a great vacation for you and your family..(for me too!) lol Seeing the ocean for the first time will be a memory that your girls will always remember...What fun! The waterfall was spectacular too!

Wow. That shot of the lighthouse stairwell, even made ME dizzy.
I'm afraid I couldn't have done that one!

I've been where most of these pictures were taken, but I've
never seen that neat bridge. Where was that???

Thanks for sharing.

When I was a teenager in Wyoming, we used to go to the movies quite often. There was a unique fellow named Wyoming Jack O'Brien. He worked for Paradise Dude Ranch and he travelled back east to promote the dude ranch. He liked to drink a little and sometimes he'd come in and sit down in front of us; or by us, or behind us--and regardless of where the movie was filmed, he recognized what city it was and he'd loudly announce it to the whole theater full of people. I thought it was amazing that he had seen all those places. You and your family are getting around to see alot, Yanuck. Good for you guys. I never saw the ocean til I was fairly old.

That is a fine set of pictures, Yanuck, which brought back memories. In June of 1999, our family vacationed in that part of the world. We enjoyed seeing the Columbia River and watching it flow into the Pacific Ocean. Peach and the kids waded in the ocean, and I got just as close as I could get without getting my boots too wet. Thanks for sharing.

thanks everyone..it was good to get away even for just a few days..this summer has been rather tense for us work wise, so it was a much needed break.
FH the falls are just east of Portland right off the Interstate, there are 4 or 5 right in a small stretch, Multonomah is the largest
Per the building with the plane on top isn't open yet, they were working on the inside, they are supposed to be having a space shuttle added to the collection I think next yr, I took lots of pictures of the planes and space craft, it is an amazng collection to say the least.

I was Taylor's age (9) the first time I saw the ocean, and would have been just south of where we were, I still have some of the driftwood we picked. I'm pretty sure I could walk on the beach everyday and never get tired of it!

We camped a Seaside for a week when I was 11. Other than the $rth degree sunburn I got it was a memorable trip for a kid's first contact with the big water.

Thanks for allowing me to go along.

Those sea lions look like good target practice.

The most impressive memory of our trip down the US west coast were the Redwood forests along Hwy. 101. Absolutely massive trees, one of which we drove our '86 Chevy van through!

Were you in Redwood country? If so, I'd expect you would have an appropriate emoticon . . .

we weren't that far south, but the trees are huge I thought, 75 inches of rain  the underbrush is unbelievable, it would be bad if a drought happened and a fire were to start!
