I think that South Dakota should pull every penny from the Macy parade. If the organizers can't respect the wishes of the state, they should not expect anything from the state!!

I went to her concert and it was fun and we had steak before we went. 99.9% of the people would have no Idea of her views at her concert she never mentioned it.

Doesn't matter if she mentioned it or not. When the #1 industry in the state is agriculture, they shouldn't put someone up as a spokemen for the state who is against the industry that keeps the state a float.
I certanly agree we do not have much of a way to voice our opinion's and our way of life is'nt very important in the present political world. So any way we can defend our industry, we have to use. One thing that really bothers me is -- just because someone can act, sing, play pro.sports or other stuff what makes them experts in so many other things?? If a famous person is so smart why do they fall for groups like hsus or peta and so many other meddling tree hugging animal rites groups???

I liked Huckabees comment on the issue... His opinion was that we need to "chill out" on some of this stuff and quit making bigger a issue out of it than it really is...

The way I heard it, the parade folks decide whom to place on the floats. Apparently, they did replace their first, possibly somewhat random, pick of Ms. Jett. Maybe that replacement group was no better, but also likely not as well known.

My understanding is that the float is used as a way to gain publicity for tourism to SD among people from out of state, and as such may be of benefit.

We also did get some attention for our support for the number one ag business in the state, which doesn't hurt. Standing up for our beliefs that HSUS/PETA and their clones are definitely determined to end ALL uses of animals, and that we do not want to support those who work for them seems the honorable thing for us to do, imo.

It seems a major reason for celebrities to support such causes is the publicity it gets for them. To some people, having their name published in media stories is a good thing, no matter how depraved the reason.

Why hire celebrities, are there not enough people from South Dakota that could promote SD on that float, tax money is too easy to waste.

There are only about 800,000 people in SD. Quite a few of us are working more than full time, even at advanced ages for some of us!

My guess is that our taxes are spent far more frugally than most, given a relatively high degree of local control, low amount of governance on the county level (west of the River, anyway), and with the Gov we have now, frugality and quality spending for good results has been his history in rescuing at least one fine charity, and in his personal and business life before politics.

Just a somewhat educated guess, but believe that float is a package deal, which the Tourism Board, or possibly the Tourism business assoc. was involved in choosing, and may or may not be a txpayer deal.
