I just got done with an appointment with a drapery shop, I was looking to buy blinds and drapes. Seven windows, $6500!!!!!! I phoned the husband and he just said "Holy s***! That's a little pricey for a few yards of fabric and some wood, don't you think?" I tended to agree with him. So, seeing as he wants nothing to do with helping me hang blinds and drapes, I cut back on all I wanted and now it's only going to cost $3700. And for that $3700, I'm not getting much. Blinds for four windows and drapes for two. I'm sitting here thinking, do I really want to spend this much even? Now, I can definitely say, I'm not Suzy Homemaker, so I guess I'm going to have to stick with this plan, even though the thought of the cost is eating away at my insides. Damn, they'd better look good!

Nope - do what my Mom did.

She found one of those real good Grannies who loved to do this stuff - bought the material and paid the old girl to do the work.

I did up all the hanging for her.

She did the whole house for less than half of your lowest price and she made a darned good friend of the lady who did up the sewing for her. I bet they still have coffee at least twice a week.

You got time.

Heck, more than half the windows on my own house have been without curtains for the last six years.

Kids told me no way - they liked to be able to see the moon and stars at night.

You have fun

We have all blinds in our house. We had some mini-blinds for 8 years and have started changing them over heavier Venetian blinds for $30-$50 bucks a window. Check the Sears catalog. See if your high school Home Ec class needs a project.

I hung my own,its pretty easy. All ordered from Sears catalog. The thing is if you pay that much for them you feel like you can't change them...I LOVE change!! Also Sears also has custom drapes and a lady will come out measure and hang for you prob way cheaper then that.

If you need help...hey I've been wanting to visit with you anyways....

Mike...your just a ray of sunshine aren't ya....

I'm with Mrs Greg and BMR, Sears has a lot of good product that isn't over-inflated in price. Try Wal-Mart also.

Or you could use old sheets like some of the folks on the Rez. :D

You can even get those sheets with out stains and in color.

I kinda agree with Mike.... if it keeps the rain off and the wind out, there ain't much need to improve it

I'm too much of a cheapskate to spend big bucks on drapes. That's enough money to buy a big fancy new fridge, dishwasher, and a fancy convection oven, and still have money left over. Give me gadgets any day. :D :D :D :D

Suzy homemaker inclinations or not, if it was me, I'd be getting out the old Singer and running off to the fabric store. Drapes are about the easiest things to do in the world of sewing. You might amaze yourself with skills you didn't know you had. 8) If sewing really isn't what you call fun, then maybe try Sears or someplace like it. January is the season for sales on this kind of thing, so there will probably be some good bargains to be had. Take the ideas the drapery shop had, and search for a similar but less expensive version. I bet they'd look just as good, and who knows, maybe there would be enough left in the budget for a good old fashioned appliance shopping spree. :D :D :D :D :D

Have I mentioned I'm an appliance junkie? :P Nothing warms the heart like a fine smooth top stove with a self cleaning convection oven... :P :P :P :D :D :D :D :D

I just put all wood blinds in our house and used Blindselect.com I thought they were alot cheaper than other places I had checked out..and every blind I got was just what I ordered. Very happy with them, and they'll send ya free samples to see what the wood and color are really like..I think I saw an ad where this is the same co. that Ty uses on home improvement..not for sure though...No matter what you want to use blinds or drapes,,it's expensive!

p.s. Suzy homemaker I'll never be..don't even own a sewing kit..lol

I figure if you did'nt want to see out why put windows in.I would'nt spend that kind of money to cover up a high priced window.
