Pelvic Measurements

This is the first year we've pelvic measured heifers. And I always thought there was just one measurement in cm. But the vet did two measurements which I take it as inches. Say for example 14.5 and 14. Can anyone explain this to me please?

Square centimeters. LXW. Should be 144 or better. 14.5 X 14 would beat that.

Width and height. Both are important.
We used to pelvic measure, but never had any that had to be culled due to being too small, so we quit.
