Anyone use old center pivot pipe to build holding pens or corrals? I had tought they weren't heavy enough bit the other day I built a hay trailer out of it and it seems plenty good enough except for maybe the high pressure areas. Any thoughts good or bad?

near Hutch there is a buffalo corral made from old pivot pipes....if they hold those stupid creatures, they ought to hold cattle.

If your neighbors have buffalo eventually you will have buffalo. They usually get Winchester and Remington to help roundup the getaways but I used the services of Browning.

my neighbor uses electric fence, and hangs a lot of it from trees with baling twine....so in a way, yes, I have buffalo!

they get out every so often, and we all load up and run them back in....it is a pain, but they are neat to watch....when they are in thier pen

I found a big old bull next to my cows one morning-I ran him back into the swamp hoping he'd wander back to his cows. The next time I found him he was in my cows hooking the crap out of them-found two freshly slipped calves. He was easy to load in quarters.

ain't never had noth'in to do with them, but heard lots and got a nice big hide

We've used sprinkler pipe for corral material. Mostly because the price was right (free)! We have cattle and horses in pens made out of it. We used steel for the posts and the pipe for the rails. They have only been up for a couple of years but seem to work well. I'm not too worried about the horse pens. The other pens we keep fresh stockers in to acclimate them. Haven't had any problems yet but if something really wanted to "test" it, the pipes do bend.

I have built a lot of fence out of irrigation pipe. The first one I did I used pipe for the posts and 3 pipes connected with reddy bolts. Baby calves can crawl through the bottom 2 pipes but it was built for an alley to my calving barn so that wasn't an issue. The next pen I built I used pipe for the posts again and used 2 pipes and concrete wire, you know the stuff that kind of looks like woven wire. I did it this way on this pen because it is my gathering pen for branding and I couldn't have it so calves could crawl out. Instead of reddy bolt to attach to pipes I used the 5/8" truss rods that were on the pivot and threaded them myself. That way all I had to buy was the nuts and washers. Saved a lot of money that way. If I ever figure out how to post pictures I will get some on here or else maybe Soapweed could swing by sometime and snap a few. He's good at that. Hint Hint

That's sort of what I'm thinking about. Did you use roll wire of 20' sheets? I can't get pictures up on these sites either.
