I am getting a little rain :D - so enjoying it watching Pharo's sale on RFD-TV on Superior....

Now I don't care what you think of Kits ideas- and whether you think its a fad- program- scam or whatever, I wish I'd thought of it.... :shock: :wink: :lol:

So far out of 130 angus lots the cheapest has been $2500- with most selling in the $3000 to $4000 range....Lots of the bulls going to Montana and Wyoming-with quite a few to SD and Nebraska.......

Just watched a 1.6 Frame bull sell to Oklahoma for $5000 :shock:
 
Help me out on this frame score thing. How big is a 1.6 bull. Would it fit in an average Angus herd?
 
I too thought that his bulls were selling good. The auction preview was the first time that I had seen Kit Pharo. I realize that he is sort of a controversial fellow to some but he looks like he has got it together to me. I thought that his cattle (cows) on that preview/interview looked good,and I agree with his ideas about making a profit in this buisness. On another note, I think they need to get another auctioneer. I could do as good as that guy!!! Have a good day, Clay in southern middle TN

My angus frame score chart doesn't even list under 3 frame so I'm not sure...They list a 3 frame as being 45 inchs as a yearling and 52.3 inchs as a mature bull....
I think the smallest I have ran is a couple of bulls that were 54 inchs tall at the hip- making them barely 4 frames...They were great bulls and raised some good calves and heifers that made good mommas...

Lots of Kits bulls are in the 3 and 4 frame score area....

This link shows a frame 1 bull at 21 months of age as being 45.3 inches tall. It shows a heifer of the same age and frame as being 42.3 inches tall. I don't know as if you could consider that as mature size or not.

Edit: I found another link that shows mature ages and hip heights:

It shows a frame 1, 48 mo. old bull as having a hip height of 48.5 inches; and a cow of the same frame and age as having a hip height of 44.6 inches.

Following the catalog along on the DVD Auction site- they list the cows weight- and most have been running in the 1000-1200 lb range with the average being around 1100....
 
I have a question...probably a really stupid one, one I should know, but I don't....

What age does a frame 1 or 2 mature out at? My instinct says they mature earlier than say a frame 6, but I'm not sure my logic is correct.

Any thoughts?

is it just me or do alot of the bulls look shallow in the flank, in the twist and a bit leggy. For being small frames, I would think they would be deeper made.

Sorry...the frame scores are related to a mathematical equation...so I guess the scale would be 0 to 10+. The taller the hip height in inches, in relation to age, the larger the frame.

So, if you have two seven month old heifers, one having a hip height of 41 inches, the other a hip height of 43 inches; the 43 inch heifer will have the larger frame (a frame 5 vs. a frame 4)

The frame score equations for both bulls and heifers are in the first link for sure, and probably the second link too.

They were in the fall sale the red to me are his better bull's.I'm sure I could find something to use though.
 
I did a little browsing through the online catalog a couple of weeks ago. There were some bulls in there that I, too, thought could be a little deeper/thicker. There were quite a few, though, that I thought were excellent examples of how a bull should look. I might post a link or two on here if I can find them and see what you guys think. I didn't and don't spend just a whole lot of time looking at e.p.d.'s, so let's not get bogged down with that.....I would just be curious what some of your reactions would be to the bulls that caught my eye.

By looking at your/my/ our Avatar we like the same kind of bulls.
 
I just watched a bit of the sale. I saw three crossbred Hereford /Angus.
Strange markings for a two way cross. :???:
I watched a few red Angus fall 06 bulls sell. They actually looked quite framey. A couple weren't carrying much for scrotums for their age. :?

They sold for lots of money.

The markings on the bulls is certanly possible. I have had 2 way cross cattle end un nearly all black too.

I found it interesting how Kit described the bulls. First of all he called them crossbred, which they are and I beleive he called them the highest performing, stoutest, easiest fleshing bulls in the sale. The hybred vigor showed through :!: :!: :D

It doesn't surprise me though.
