Philippines ends ban of Canadian beef
by Pete Hisey on 5/27/2005 for Meatingplace.com
Arthur Yap, the Philippines secretary of agriculture, has lifted the ban on imports of beef from Canadian cattle, provided that the beef comes from cattle under 30 months of age that have been deboned and had other specified risk materials removed.
Yap said that with a strong feed ban in force and the ability to certify the age of its cattle, the risk from Canadian beef is "negligible."
Canada will also have to included slaughter date or production date on the label of each package exported, and no downer cattle may be processed and shipped.
