That foundation photo....looks like it could be used for a corral if need be.....why is it there? what was it? and how did it get slid off on the side of that hill like that?

It was built that way on the side of the hill, on purpose, but I'll have to do a little research to figure out why.

Very nice pictures, looks like it's starting to warm up there.

The foundation on your land? It's odd they would build it on that side hill like that.

the foundation reminds me of a few old barns in our area. they were two levels above and one below the ground as you looked at them from the north. then the south side had a walk out basement type.

grand dad said the winters were colder then ( insert green freak global warming comment here) and it really helped to milk and calve "below ground" most were built into a hill like that appears to be.

Your right it was built in that place and the reason was for grain storage. The idea was to use the gravity from the side hill to help when emptying the granary.

It was built in the 1930's but never got farther than just the foundation which was a feat in itself at that time.

That foundation doesn't look like it was built that way to me. Any building would slide off of that. For a grain bin I understand the hillside but I'd think the top would be level even if the bottom wasn't. I'm curious to what you find out soapweed. That's interesting.

I agree, if it was built for grain storage, looks like the lower wall would have been higher than the back wall.

LOL I still think it'd make a good start on a set of workin pens, that is, if the sides are tall enuff.

Thanks for enlightening me, k_ranch. I've wondered every time I drive by it, but never asked the right people about what it was. It's interesting that they went to so much work making the foundation, and then abandoned the project.
