Hi MN, those are sweet looking youngsters. What breed are they?
Our cattle are all black, except for one red one and one that looks like she had a henna treatment, sort of orange over black. I'm going to start freeze branding them to get a little color in the fields.

Do llamas truly spit, and if so, is it only when they are truly disgusted with the target object?
Does Bionca have a job or is she there to smile and look pretty, not that that isn't a workload in itself somedays?
I have a pair of goats who have no practical purpose, but they make me laugh everytime I see them. That's a job well done.

Emma, yes llama's do spit, but only if agitated (sp?) Her only purpose is to have a baby every once in a while, and i show her and 2 males.

Linger Longer. Yes we know Maurice. The calves pictured are out of one of his bulls. He is still up and at things. Just curious, ho do you know him? This is a small world.

I lived 2 miles from him when I was a kid. He gave my family all kinds of critters, ponies, calves, raccoons, faxies, goats. He is an old family friend. I would like to get one of his bulls. Because of him I started a small herd of shorthorns in MT. Post more pix.

that heifer in the 4th picture down is a very nice looking heifer. Very nice structure and eye apeal. I used to have a show heifer that looked almost identical to her. Shorthorns make the best showcalves. Tame and usually to break and taste good in the end :) What are your calves getting for feed?

They are getting 8 pounds of oats, a pound of protein, and all the hay they want. We have salt and mineral out free choice. The heifer in the fourth pic weighed 450 the thrid week of August, so we are figuring that she weighs around850 now. They all have gained well on oats. Dad is a believer in them. The only corn they get is teh little bit that was in the bottom of the bin and we dumped the oats on top.
