Don't know if Saddletramp is a cowaroo or a buckboy, but he is a danged good cowhand. :-)

Necessarystuff.Someonecameupwithagoodidea.jpg

Necessary stuff. Someone came up with a good idea by making dehorners with a bow to the handles.
Theblankethelpsimmensely.jpg

The blanket helps immensely, and prevents the calves from seeing me as they put their necks into the headcatch.
Bottomsupcalfdown.jpg

Bottoms up, calf down, as we doctored one with a droop ear later in the day.

In the last photo of doctoring the calf, I see that you managed to catch double front and back feet. You guys are pretty handy with those ropes!

However, I also notice that the cameraman is atop Peachy's horse while she's doing the doctoring. Pardon me but I must ask: did she do the roping and is the photographer only straddling her horse for the photo op?

The cowlick on the nose of my gray horse is in an extremely low position; hence his IQ falls quite a bit short of satisfactory. His cutting horse and rope horse skills are far shy of even average, and could actually be termed "deficient." The paint horse, Goose, excels in these categories. It was therefore a privilege for me to be able to borrow my good wife's horse for the above pictured roping exercise. I do hereby hate to admit it, but Saddletramp, his horse, me, Goose, and the calf all had ample opportunity for sustained physical exercise before the task was completed. At least the calf's feet, which were fine, and his ear, which was drooping, all had adequate chance for the blood to circulate from the aforementioned athletic workout. :-) Now our only concern is that we didn't kill the calf with kindness. :?

There's a clear canister with a yellow lid on your spool. Looks like "Animal Crackers" .......LOL just wonderin if you've gone to givin the calves a treat for bein good in the chute

The jar contained peanuts, used to obtain extra performance from the cowpokes who were present.

I always get a good chuckle out of your captions, Soap.......love the pics, the cattle look good, and so does the grass, especially in that first shot!!! Looks like y'all had enough rain to make it good this summer.

Thanks for sharing, it's always worth the wait of getting the pics loaded on my old dinosaur of a computer, and our ultra-speedy dial-up connection.........

Those were very worthy photos, Soapweed. Thanks for sharing. You are always so kind with your words, you can tell Peach Blossom and Saddle Tramp are an important ingredient in your operation.

Now, I'm curious. Did you worm the calves with the Dectomax?
If so, did you worm the cows as well? And how long is it til you
take them to the sale ring? Do you always worm this time of year?

He likes it pretty well, and seems to be taking his studying seriously. I guess from a parent's perspective, we can't ask for more than that. It is beautiful country up that way, with the Bighorns for a backdrop.

Glad you are enjoying the football season. It is more fun if you know someone playing in the game, and it's always a good chance to visit with the neighbors. Good luck to your grandson as he plays.

I love love love looking at your pictures. You all have such a knack for taking them!
I have only been to Nebraska once in my life and I think we drove from one end of the state to The other!! We bought a bull out of Tekamah a couple of years ago and picked him up ourselves. First "vacation" Hubby and I ever took with just the 2 of us. I thought we would kill each other!
I loved seeing the fire flys. I had never seen them before. A couple got stuck on the windshield and it took us about 20 miles to figure out what the heck was glowing!! Can ya tell we are from the CA. Desert??
Snakes, scorpions , and coyotes are the NORM for us. I can not wait to get out of here!

I always said, concerning my needs, that I needed a deep bottomed horse worse than a rope horse.
