So we showed the shepp and put them in box stalls my the cows. We woul dwalk em every morning and all the cattle guys didnt like sheep being around there cows  So we told em that they were minature Chars! haha the cityslickers believed us! hha

Nice pictures, looks like if the weather stays like it is,it'll only get muddier

Good pictures :) ! So how's the market for sheep up there? I haven't heard any hysteria about "mad lamb disease". lol

I have a question; do you grill 'em, bake 'em, grind 'em up and make "lamburger", or what?....have never been around sheep. :???:

well, market seems pretty good, we sold some not to long ago and it averaged about $100 for about a 40 kilo lamb. umm i do not eat it but dads griled the chops umm moms cooked it like pork chops, theyve had lambburgers and lamb spegitti, lamb roast. lmab meat balls. If you can do it with pork you can pretty much do it with lamb.

Lamb is good if it is a good lamb.. If it is bad lamb there is some stuff you can do to cut the mutton falvour a bit... We kill about 3 or so a year and eat them.. I love good lamb, not the stuff they sell at the grocery store...

EWWW I HATE LAMB!!!!!! :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag: :gag:

I would never eat it even if my life depended on it!

We love lamb esp when we get it from friends who raise them. I WILL NOT, however ever ever buy mutton...who in the heck would want to?

ECK

IL rancher, what makes bad lamb, bad lamb? Is it the type of feed? Or are they really older than lamb (mutton)? Just curious.

I didn't eat lamb until I was 18 or maybe 19 years old and even than it was once a year.. Had the same feelings as you because I had a bad experience with it.. But went to an Italian Feast (Saint something or other) and they had a giant lamb barbeque and it was great.. Since than I started having it more and more.. Lamb burger good, lamb mixed with hamburger and some spices and served in a peta with feta cheese and greek olives... HMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm ahhhhh... Good stuff.. I would say we eat a heck of a lot more beef but lamb and pork, if you remove breakfast meats, would be pretty close to even..

Grass fed, 10 month old Targhee...Nummmy.

Great pics Katy but that Mutt wasn't nearly as muddy as my mutt today. We were cleaning bunk pad and he was moving cattle in the slop, He had fun and should be a tired pup tonight.

I don't know Hanta... I wish I did.. I think it is one of the biggest problems with lamb as far as consumption. When I was at MSU I took a class that Ray Ansotegui (Gosh, spelled way wrong, sorry Ray)and Pat Hatfield taught... ARNR 210 or something like that and Pat talked about it a bit.. No ryhm or reason, said they would process there own out at the station and full sibllings would taste totally different..

We run Targhee here, about 30 head along with some Hair sheep and we have never had bad lamb. I have some hunches on it but I am not sure.. I think it might for some anmals be level of finish.. More finish, more oils.. More oils, more strong flavor.

We did mutton once.. Wasn't bad.. but it wasn't a 3 year old sheep either.. It was a 15 month old Wether (couldn't get an apointment for him) and he wasn't bad.. Meat was a bit tougher than I would like but he wan't that strong tasting... Sucker weighed over 200 pounds I think, can't remember for sure.

Going to try Chevre this year... We shal see how that turns out.

Katy... I don't know, we have done 10 month old rams that were cut 1 month prior to slaughter with no problem.. From what I was told by my shearer it kind of goes that as long as they aren't rutting at the time the pugnant taste isn't so bad... A ram absoultely stinks when he is rutting, head swells up... just nasty critters, lol.

Nice pictures...I think I've only petted a sheep once in my life at the county fair...They're just like all farm animals...cute when they're little but then they grow up! I liked the white kitty pictures...thanks
