Piedmontese Beef

They do look good! Very good, in fact!!

I remember now why the fella we know didn't pursue the Piedmontese
thing: calving problems. Wasn't the meat, it was problems calving.
They couldn't find enough people to want to watch their cattle that
close in order to get enough calves to make it worthwhile.
FWIW

The full blood cattle are not very hardy either. They are a barn raised draft animal originally and yes they have calving problems. If you breed Pied bulls to black cows there are not many problems. Although you have to have what they call a 2 copy animal to carry the tendernous gene. All of you genetic people will understand what that means. If you don't I am not smart enough to explain it.

Not necessarily.
By breeding genetically normal heifers to bulls known to be carriers of the Myostatin (Double muscled) trait, a producer can raise calves either homozygous or heterozygous for the trait. Heterozygous calves may be highly desirable, as they will develop a mild form of the condition, thus producing a higher carcass yield and leaner, tender meat without such a high risk of dystocia and poor post-natal development.
