My niece and a couple of young ladies from her church are headed to this pilgrimage.

Sounds like a good idea to bring together all Christians but heck the Lutherans can't agree amongst themselves how are you going to get all denominations to agree. :?

Pine Ridge is located near the Nebraska border in Shannon county in western South Dakota.

The Pine Reservation includes Shannon and Washabaugh counties, with Red Shirt in the far northwest corner of Shannon County, about 30 miles, as the crow flies, north east of Hot Springs.

Does anyone know if that event took place?

That area is so beautiful! It can be Cathedral like, or in a summer storm...more like Hades, if one isn't prepared and has shelter!

I never saw or heard any news of it, and a gathering of even a couple hundred people is newsworthy in western SD!!!

Maybe I just didn't find it on the internet version of Rapid City Journal, the only daily newspaper in the west end of SD. I have missed several interesting things by failing to properly navigate that system, to my disappointment.

There are wonderful people with talent and courage and personalities to make better lives for their families.

Separation of the cultures hasn't helped much, so it will be a blessing if this 'gathering' of cultures of faith helps to bring about the many 'miracles' needed.

Encouragement to make some sustainable uses of the multiple natural resources and the Native Culture could help the people immensely, IMO. Tourism and growing interest in the cultures and the area may help make it happen as the younger members gain education and determination to change their lives for the better. Drug and alcohol dependence has held too many in those chains for far too long, and there does seem to be some good things happening toward changing that situation.
