I got to do quite of bit of playing this past week.
My Honey out at Ft Rob. It was a tad bit cool and snowy.
My Father-in-law, checking in on his cows back home in Pueblo CO.
Cows coming down the hill. If you look REAL close you might find em.
Waiting to turn them down the right direction.
Their version of wild horses. I think there were 12, 2 year olds that wanted to play. Made for a long rest of a cow drive for me. I was riding a rather green 5 year old, that gets WOUND UP
Mike and his son Trevor turning the 2s back.
Driving the 'Horns to the corral.
Skinny putting a brand on one. If you look at the branding stove, you will notice all the irons.
Heifers and Bulls get a 5 digit number brand, as well as the slash N.
Finished branding, and sorting pairs. They divide them into breeding groups of around 25 for registration purposes.
And yes there were plenty of DUDES. That was one of the few I have been to, where I was riding a green horse, and absolutely could not miss a heel.
Headed home Friday morning, and was home long enough to repair a water line, do chores, and switch trailers, to go to a different branding, 80 miles the other way.
Saturday, I could not catch a heel. Rode my old Frog horse, and durn near froze. Left the house just after 5AM, at 19 degrees. Saw that the farmers had our pivot running. And went on to the branding.
Only got 2 pictures.
The cattle down in that country sure looked good, and the calves could kick!
