Portable calving sheds.

i've been thinking of the same thing...
Commen Sence Manufacturing out of Faulkton SD makes one I really like.
not sure if they have a website, i kinda think they do....
 
how big were you thinking? We have made some that are 30' x 12'. Hope they will work but haven't tried them yet.
 
If you look at a daniels one better be sitting down they are kind of pricey. But they are a pretty darn good barn also. Used to be a salesman for them looked up what they want here is some. 12' x 24' Open Front - 3 Pens
$7,158-Bare barn
$8,718-With gates and panels
$10,703-complete barn
*Complete barn package includes pulling alley made up of Pearson automatic head gate, 2 more nurse panels and 2 special divider panels with extra gates

I sold alot of them down in our country and the guys that bought them still love them.
 
We made our own, katrina. We have 2 of them. You can set them out
by themselves, or put them together. We'd probably sell them, as
we are selling the cows...
I'll go take a picture and post it here.

I think you'll like them. We used one for the heifers and their calves
after they calved and one inside where the corral used to be,
before a big wind came along and took out one side of the windbreak. :shock: I felt real good about having them for the cows
to get into.
 
Last spring I bought a 12 x 40 all steel, open front shed delivered for $4,600 from Nielsen Welding, Stromsberg, NE. It has 4 pens. Pipe panels swing and latch to form the pens. The pipe panels aren't included in that price as I had them left over from a previous shed a tornado tore apart. The shed is on pipe skids and can be moved. Also needs to be anchored real well !!!! Sure has been helpful.
 
I'd like to know how you get a cow into a 12'x24' shed into a pen out on the open range so you can pull a calf without a good alleyway leading into it. Not even sure you could get many cows to follow you into that little building after she dropped the calf. :???:
 
We have two, but really don't plan on using either pre-calving.
One is specifically for shelter after calving and the other one, cows
can get into to calve. But then, we hardly ever pull a calf here,
even out of a first calf heifer...the fellow that night calves for us
said he worked here 3 years before he ever had to pull a calf.

One thing that bothers me with a danials is there is no place to climb.. :wink:
 
i put up a 36x 100 hoop barn,you would like that,they are warmer than metal buildings,and with a white tarp the lighting is very good ,even without electricity,during the summer you can store other things in it

That's what we were kinda thinking too....
 
Here's an idea, don't calve during storms. :wink: Just kidding, but honestly I was always thinking about new tree groves, windbreaks, sheds, shelters, fences, etc. etc. to try to deal with calving in storms until I realized that they were all unnecessary when you calve in May and June. It took me 40 years to figure that one out. Me not real smart. Take long time to think of better way. :D :D
 
I have a 42X100 hoop barn and the year after we put it up we had 70-90 MPH straight winds. It bent the pipes in the north door, basically ruined it, but the building itself is in great shape yet. I would like a portable shed but I can't imagine what a shed that big would cost. I can have 17 pairs in indvidual stalls and still have room for 25-35 more in the center allway. It is so nice and light in there and the building doesn't swet.
