Our young friends in Oklahoma found a really good looking used horse trailer with living quarters on www.equinehits.com. The ad was complete with pictures and the trailer looks like new and the price is, get this: $2900.

She called and asked me what I thought and I told her, it sounds like a scam to me. Here is what the seller has to say about the trailer:

The trailer is available for sale. The price I'm selling it for is $2,900.00, which is including all charges. It is very clean, clear title and no mecanichal problems. I used to live in US but I'm currently working in the UK (London) and I'll be moving here permanently within the next few months. I have already been sold my horses and I can't afford the luxury of taking the trailer with me so I decided to let it go.
I'm using a freight and escrow company to sell this trailer, I left it at their warehouse in Sutton, Nebraska before leaving to the UK. They are supervising the entire sale process from payment, shipping with a inspection period, title transfer service or/and (if needed) returns and refunding. I can ship it for free within the US if you want to buy it. Let me know what you decide. The pics speak for themselves, You'll love the trailer, I can guarantee you that!
Let me know your intention...

Very nice and super clean horse trailer features:
2001 Sundowner Valuelite 727 4 Horse Gooseneck Slant Load Horse Trailer
Lights in stalls
Drop down sliding windows w/bars
Saddle Rack – 4 saddles
Bi-directional roof vents
Rear Loading Ramp
Rear Loading Lights
Spare Tire
Rubber Floor Mats
Nice Tires
Queen Mattress

I told her he could scam her several ways and there wouldn't be much she could do about it, since he is in a different country. The trailer is supposed to be located in Sutton, NE. Now on the map, Sutton, NE looks
way too small to have a 'freight and escrow' company. I also told her
that he could have taken photos of a nice trailer and his is trashed; I told her not to send him any money until the trailer is delivered or picked up and to make sure the VIN number on the title matches that of the trailer.
My suggestion was that she reply to the seller, tell him she is interested and that she wants to go look at it so he needs to tell her exactly where it is. And I told her, these deals that appear too good to be true, usually aren't true.

Have any of you run into something like this? Is there anything else I can tell her? I hate to rain on her parade, but this is sounds too fishy to me.

yeah its a scam. i was looking at a trailer online. seller said it was at a shipping company in mississippi and that she was a dealer on a cruise ship. then i requested to go look at it and she told me it wasnt there.....blah. blah. blah.

Yep, it's a scam. Here's the reply I just got from an ad I placed on Craigs List (another scammer):

Hello,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I'm interested and ready to buy it. I anticipate that I'll have a Money Order payment issued out to you so that you can get your cash instantly. I will have love to meet you in person but i'm very busy with work and other important obligations.
As regards the pick up, You do not have to bother yourself about the pick up. I'll instruct a shipping co agent to come for pick up at your door, when you must have gotten your cash at hand. Kindly e-mail me back with your physical address such as Name,Address (NOT P.o.box) City, State, Zip-code, Your final asking price with Phone Number to reach you. You can delete the advert asap! I will await your response with details.

Regards

Seems all to similar to one I FOUND ON Craigs List

I emailed he about 12 times and kept asking for info where it was a contact number physical address. She finally asked me why I WAS simply not sending the money instead of asking so many questions she thought did not matter.

Well finally after 3 weeks I informed her the emails had been sent to the Ohio AG and the California AG the emails stopped and the ad was removed from craigs list.

For a while i SUGGESTED i HAD SENT THE MONEY via Pay Pal as ske had suggested. My intent was to keep her tied up thinking she was getting money and also building up some info for the 2 states AG offices

Hi,
As I've told you at this moment I am in California in a military base getting ready for Middle East (I hope for the last time). I do a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want. The shipping is not a problem because a have considerable discount from eBay and I can do it at no cost for you. You will receive the car along with all the documents including title, bill of sale, 2 set of keys, full service records and more . Because it is a large transaction we will complete the deal only using an authorized third part like eBay coz I already prearranged the whole process with them, using their escrow Safe Pay Program. The car is located in their warehouse in Los Angeles, CA (ready for delivery). I've asked them to allow viewers to go there and inspect the car but their reply was: "We are not a showroom!" In this case I will offer a 5 days period to inspect the car from the moment you receive it, before I'll have your money. I think this is more than fair for both of us.
The payment will be handling by eBay Escrow, and you will benefit of 5 days inspection time period (test drive) and the option to accept or reject the car on my expense. If you are still interested just send me your full name and shipping address. I will forward your info to eBay and they will notify you about our deal.Like this you'll be able to talk with them directly and ask all you want to know.
Regards!!

Thanks

I live 70 miles from Sutton, NE, and I am good friends with the local trailer dealer there. (At least I am when our girls are not playing softball against each other! ) I sure have never heard of a freight/escrow company there. My friend would know about such a company or a trailer like that, I would think.
I guess if you are real red hot, look up the number for Todd's Feed Supply and Trailer Sales there and ask for Todd.
A family of scam artists and alleged cattle theives from these parts finally wore out their welcome a few years ago and moved to guess where? SUTTON.
If you find out that any party involved in this has the last name of Voboril, don't walk away...RUN!!!!

Its not only trailers--Same thing is being done with ATV's..Advertising them with little hours and for $2000-- then giving a Eureka Montana address...Came to be- my SIL had a buddy in Eureka- and said he would have him check it out- AND lo and behold all communications stopped...

Some of these guys are almost as dumb and funny as the Nigerian and other African scammers that have a way for you to make 250 Million $....

Sadly the big one now- and one that will draw in some old folks- are the ones purporting themselves to be US military men that have found millions $ in Iraqi gold- and need to get it back to the country to keep the Mullahs from getting it....

Enlighten us. How much did they soak you for?

Anyone know how to sell something safely through Ebay? I hear the scammers are working through that site as well.

SCAM UPDATE:

I sent your comments to Oklahoma. She sent the seller of the trailer
an email and asked where the trailer was so she could go look at it.

Heres the reply:

Hi again,
As you could see the horse trailer is in showroom condition. It is paid in full and will come with the title (clear title), bill of sale signed by me and all the papers that you need to register it under your name.
The trailer is stored to a warehouse but the shipping isn't a problem. It can be done at no cost for you. You will receive the trailer along with all the documents.
As for the payment we can start a transaction through the freight company where i'm already registered. You will have to register too on their web site, sign into your account and start a new transaction as a buyer. They act as a third party and will protect both of us in this transaction.
Email me back with your full name and shipping address if you'd like to buy it.
Regards!
Philip

And she found another one and sent an email that she was interested.
She said what she got back was pretty much exactly what was posted
here.
Here is that reply:

Hi again,
I`m located in Dallas (the trailer is here with me) right now because i got a new job here, the thing is i`m very busy and i don`t have time to stay and meet
with all my potential buyers, that is why i gave to a shipping company that will ship it to the next owner(on my cost), so i'm trying to sell it online under
eBay`s protection.Here is how it works :
The sale will be managed through eBay under their Vehicle Purchase Protection program since they offer the highest rate of safety and reliability during
online transactions. They act as a neutral third party.
1. I will contact eBay and give all the info about this deal.
2. They will email us the forms which are needed for our deal(invoice, payment instructions, buyer's and seller's protection policy)
3. You will send the money to eBay and they will notify me to ship the trailer to your location.
4. After you will inspect the trailer and decide to keep it, eBay will forward the funds to me once you have approved them to do so. You will have 5 days to
inspect it.
Please reply with your complete name and shipping address in your next email and let me know if you are interested in knowing more details about this
purchase so that I can open a transaction at eBay and to move forward with this deal. After that they will contact you with all necessary information about
this transaction(terms,buyer protection,payment instructions,invoice,etc.).
P.S. Please don`t forget to send me your full name and address.

It's pretty easy to sell.. I do all the time. What are you worried about? How can I help?

Worried mainly about collecting. Does the payment for whatever I'm sellling go through Ebay? In other words, is it Ebay that makes sure the payment form (money order etc) is legitemate? Or, is that my problem?

Yes Ebay will make sure the transaction goes smoothly. Just register for PayPal and go through paypal for all your transactions. Yes it cost some, but it's worth the hassle free transactions.. Let me know if I can help you more.. Most people are very nice and honest...

This just adds another page to the to the scam for the horse trailer we recently received. Of course we noted the excellent trailer. I thought it was a scam, so when I checked it further and came across this site it all made sense. Great site. Thank you. I knew this sale was too good to be true. Plus when a person replying can't spell.....that's a red flag. Here's the reply we got.
