My dad who will be 80 in a week or so, and who lives in Mexico, is having gall bladder and blood pressure problems. His blood pressure has been varying wildly (up to 215/110) and the doctor said he needs to have his gall bladder removed. He is flying up to Boise on tues, and my cousin will pick him. Please pray that the blood pressure and pain will mellow out until he gets up here and to a doctor...and that the surgery will go well.

A question for you nurses, is it a fairly easy surgery and recovery?

Thanks in advance for the prayers, his name is Torris.

I'm not a nurse but I had GB surgery several years ago.

I had mine on a Friday and was mowing grass by Monday. You're sore and the worst part is the gas they use to ' puff ' you up...it's a killer on your shoulder muscles.

Once the pain from the bad GB is gone and recovery from surgery is over you might be surprised by how much that BP might drop! When you're in pain or discomfort the BP will go up!

On a scale from 1-10, with 10 being the worst, I'd say my surgery pain was a 3!

Good luck.

I have always thought of a GB removal as an elderly problem, and had Kola pegged for a 40ish age..... guess I am way off on one of those!!

we will send along a few prays from Kansas

I'm sure your just teasing Kola Jigs...but gallbladder hits at any age,my DIL was 24 when she had hers out.

He'll do OK Nicky :) prayers from Alta.

seriously, I can not think of one person who had it removed prior to 60's, well there was one, but it was after a bad car wreck....so I did not count it.....

I was 41 when I had mine taken out. Lots of people seem to be having that surgery now . I think it's one of the more popular operations.

I know life was GREAT after mine was gone!! I could eat and not hack up my guts cause that's all I was doing before the surgery!!

Mine was just ' day surgery', in by 6AM and home by about 4 PM!

MIL had hers taken out a few years ago...the pain she was goin thru before.......was horendous.....she said the pain after surgery was bliss compared to pre-surgery.

Prayers for your dad, in hopes that his trip is smooth....and that surgery is a breeze.

Nicky---if it is at all possible, they will take the gallbladder out using a scope which will leave only 3 very small incisions (one for the camera, one for the cutter and one for the removal) and he will be back on his feet in NO TIME!!!! Yes, some folks experience post-op pain, but mostly from the small incisions and most go home the same day or (at the most) within 24 hours!! It will be interesting to see if his blood pressure comes down within normal limits after the surgery...ya never know.....the pain of a rotten gallbladder may have been the driving force behind his high blood pressure!!! Keep us all posted and know that he is in our prayers!!
