I hope this isn't taken as political- as I will stick it on a couple of threads so it is seen...The rodeo world has just become aware of a move to remove the prayer from the opening ceremonies at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo...

There is a concerted movement of contestants and fans to make sure this doesn't happen... Folks are being asked to contact the PRCA, ProCom, or Wrangler and let their feelings be known...

Also if you are on Facebook go to the site Put Cowboy Prayer Back in the NFR and let your feelings be known...

Oldtimer, thanks for bringing this to our attention. I'd hate to get on a horse that was going to buck, or get into an airplane for a ride to a rodeo, without doing a little praying and soul-searching first.

From HQ: The majority of information traveling social media regarding "prayer" at the WNFR is completely inaccurate. The facts are, the NFR moved to Las Vegas in 1985 and there has never been an opening prayer in the last 26 years. The perception that prayer has been eliminated comes from the extended television coverage where our TV fans, for the first time, got to enjoy the entire opening events including the National Anthem and the Grand Entry. Because there was no opening prayer heard by the television audience, fans assumed that the PRCA, Las Vegas Events or some other outside group had cancelled the prayer that was never there. The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association takes great pride in the fact that this Nation was founded on the principle of religious freedom and would hope our fans respect each person's individual right to that religious freedom. We are proud of our Association and our cowboy heritage.

Yeah Justin- I just saw where the PRCA Main Office came out with that statement-- and apparently this is another of the internet/e-mail false info posts circulating the country...
It sure had some PRCA contestants and contract act folks up in arms...

Actually I trusted in some very prominent PRCA cowboys and cowgirls I communicate regularly on... They are who got ahold of me... Folks that are at the NFR yearly and should know what is or is not happening... But apparently they weren't paying any attention...Not sure where it got started- but it sure multiplied like rats on the internet...

Makes old Honest Abes quote even more credible...

Hi,

A few weeks ago I wrote the PRCA offices in Colorado Springs and asked them why there was no longer prayer during the opening ceremonies of the WNFR. I received a polite email in reply with good news: In 2012, for the first time in 26 years, all 10 opening performances of the WNFR had an opening prayer. According to the PRCA, prayer was returned at the request of the contestants.

If you'd like to see the PRCA's reply in its entirety I've made a special page for it here: http://www.cowboyway.com/NationalFinalsRodeoPrayer.htm . Thanks.
