Preg checked the Hfrs

Had 13 open out of 100 after 33 days with the bulls.

Of course had 9 out of 32 purebreds with one bull and only 4 out of 68 where I ran 4 bulls.

Don't know if something was bothering the cattle in the one group as they were sure hard to handle and were only away from the others just for breeding.The open out of the commercial herd were maybe younger/smaller ones.
I did ship one that was bred just on disposition. :D
 
Congrats! My breed-up on heifers this year was a lot better than last year. I was sort of planning ahead based on last year so I bought 15 bred heifers....thinking they would make up for the 'opens' I anticipated finding when preg check rolled around. Weelll, I only had 3 open out of 38 so now I have 50 first calf heifers coming on. It'll be okay. Might sell some older cows I've been hanging onto.

what made you target 33 days? Just curious, I've been shooting for 45 days here

I was targeting 30 days :D but didn't get the bulls picked up :nod:

We check the Hfrs at night so I breed more for a shorter time. Figured that still makes 6 weeks of night checks. :?
 
We're doing ours on the 29th. We'll see what happens then , we haven't pulled bulls but only will keep those bred in the first 30 days.


You both did well.
 
Pregging Hfs on the 2nd. Hope mine do as well as yours BMR. Short breeding period too. If they are coming good I won't do night checks at all. The days are long enough. :-)

Tam paints or crafts half the night so she does them. :D

We calved out 100% live last spring on the Hfrs so I guess the effort payed off. Didn't help many but probably enough to make wages. :D
