Projected Slaughter Steer Closeouts

You're reading it all wrong. The current fill is projected at a loss of only $72 per head. That nearly 3 times as profitable as the current loss of $184. :D

Maybe for a little bit. But one thing that is for sure People that feed cattle are eternal optimists. By the time October gets here I truly believe that the price of corn will be closer to 4 dollars than 7 plus which is was in January. The price right now on the board for new crop is about 5.30. I'm not the only one thinking its going to go down. I have contacted several feedlots trying to contract some corn but nobody is willing to price anything until they see how many acres are going to be planted. Everything I have read from anybody of importance sees the corn price going down big time. So with that in mind calf buyers are still going to be bidding up come time to sell this years calf crop. Just my opinion.

Feedstocks will determine feeder calf prices this fall plain and simple. Going to be alot of silage and wet corn in this country.

Ya these losses aren't fun, we have some in the lot too. But the way I see it is Fat cattle prices will need to go up some, as the demand with the world population is growing way to fast and the countries where the population is growing, like China for example are getting more and more money and can afford it more than they could of a few years back. Plus if the US just has an average corn crop this fall with the amount of acres being planted, their will be a record amount of corn harvested, not think if it is a get year. The feedlots can't sit empty and keep employees, so they will either close doors or buy calves, and if they close doors, then I see see some other outfit buying them at pennies on the dollar so they can feed calves. I don't see the price of calves dropping off at all, especially with the cow numbers out there. This drought has really dug a hole in the numbers in the U.S. and the price of grains has eaten up that ground so fast that the numbers will never come back to what they once were. I am an optimist so take it for what its worth. :)

Now all of that can change if our dam government gets in the way, which is quite possible.

I am hoping to see $3 corn this year. neighbor leased out over 10,000 acres to the highest bidder... Place across the road from me went for $450 acre irrigated, and $250 acre dryland..... I want to see grain prices bottom out......the big wheels need to learn a lesson

I don't want to see people go broke, but I would like to see corn around the $5 area so both feeders and farmers can for once come out ok.
