Protein injection for infection

An old rancher friend told me in the 40s they used pet milk injections for pink eye with good success according to him. Checked the web for what I could find and found this article from 1922. Thought some might find it interesting. Does anyone remember back far enough to have any input?

Might explain why some of the old timers around here used to use canned milk on the eye infected with pinkeye. I remember that that little procedure made the medication applicator feel good but it did little to nothing for those infected.

I use la300 for pink eye or micotil. Just curious if the protien worked for anything. For example Mycoplasma is hard to treat with antibiotics. Too much time in a drill today I guess.

We are old enough to remember canned milk as a treatment for pinkeye, but we thought it was the Vit A that helped, didn't realize it could be the protein. I don't think it worked all that well, if I remember correctly. It was more a test of skill to inject the stuff into the third eyelid.

Sounds like smearing used engine oil on ringworm.

this worked really well, esp if the oil was really dirty, esp on black cattle--at least until the oil wore off.......
