putting football in perspective

sports are wonderful, and I enjoy the jabs we take at each other here over our favorite teams, however, I found this on a KSU football board, and wanted to share so we keep in mind the perspective of athletics and what is most important


A good friend of mine just told me she was sitting in the south end zone yesterday and said right before kickoff an elderly gentlemen suffered a heart attack and apparently stopped breathing. Immediately people that were next to him started CPR until the EMT guys showed up (very quickly) and finished what was already being done. They finally rushed him to the hospital when they felt it was safe to do so. My friend said that one of the ushers came back shortly after half time and said the guy was awake, alert, doing fine and thanked those who assisted him. They might have saved his life. Hopefully he is still doing fine because she hadn't heard anything different this morning.

I know we lost a game yesterday but some quick thinking, caring KState fans did everything they could to help save a life of a brother and it seemed to work. I thought this was worth sharing here in spite of the outcome of the game because even though we didn't play well, you still gotta love KState!!!

Hope the old boy is OK. Same would have happened in Lincoln. The ROTC boys work stadium security and are well trained in CPR for just such situations.

All I really remember from my days there is early in the 4th quarter beginning to shout "C'mon, Tom!! Let the white guys play!!" Usually when the score was 56-3.

We didn't enjoy in moderation. Ever.

One time I got seperated from my ride home after the game was over. I got back to the apartment about 5 o'clock the next night. Don't recall who I caught a ride with or where I spent Saturday night and a lot of Sunday, but judging by the 3 day recovery period, I'm sure I had a good time.
