Question about a bull

I'm renting a bull from one of my former teachers at school and I've had him since March 9th. Since I've had him I haven't seen him riding the heifers he's with. There are only four heifers with him so it's not like there are heifers in heat constantly. I'm only out there every other day for about 20 minutes and then on the weekends I'm out there for a few hours at a time so I could have missed it. I know he knows what he's doing becasue I've seen his calves. My question is do yall have any suggestions or tips that I could use to tell when they are bred?

Some bulls are bashful and you never see them breed a cow- but the results are there at calving time....

Well, are they riding each other?

He ain't gonna be ridin them much if they ain't cycling.

Look for rough hair on tailhead, if ground is moist, look where feet marked or slid off.

Can you catch them easy--got a chute or alley?

If so and you got one of them old soft marking sticks, smear tailhead good, and you'll see if anyone's been ridden.

They'll be in standing heat for quite a while, but they'll also show quite a few signs coming in or going out---maybe tailtwitching, head butting, nevousness, jumping, riding, etc

personally, i wouldn't worry about it if you know he's a proven breeder and you know the heifers have been cycling. i've seen the same thing on several occasions. if i was a bettin' man, i'd say is prefers to do his business when nobody is lookin.

I'm around mine enough to know when they are in or have been just by the way they act but since I have rented the bull I don't stay out there as long as I did due to the fact that I'm not familiar with this bull so I like to take extra precautions. However I've only seen them in standing heat in the day time once. The other times I either saw the discharge or could tell by how they acted toward me.
