Remember the time of year. It's R-CALF needs money time. What would they use to con people out of their hard earned dollars this year. Remember last year they had to stop Canadian imports because they were going to flood the US market and depress prices and poison everbody because they were tainted. Well they can't really use that old line becasue they have BSE in their own herd. But at a much lower level   . And gee the market didn't crash it went up. Go figure. They thought there was a wall of cattle that would over run Montana destroy the highway and pollute the air. Didn't happen. But the lawyers were getting hungry and you know lawyers kids need shoes to so fire up the troops and head back to court. Heck nothing gets a oldtimer from montana fired up any more then a good court case. Did i say "Good" court case . They have lost this case twice. One judge out of forty some didn't even see any merit in pursueing the case. But good old Judge Cebull can always give us some press. At least if he holds off on not hearing the case they might get some money raised so his lawyer buddies can pay their greens fees for the summer.

Big Muddy- You never have answered the question on whether you believe the CFIA was wrong in instituting the Canadian BSE safeguards--the same safeguards that the independent scientists, MacDonalds, and R-CALF are now asking we have in the US..Should we not be allowed the same safeguards as the Canadians?

Of course you should have the same feed safeguards as we do. But what does that have to do with allowing our under 30 month old animals from coming into the US? There is ZERO risk to allowing these animals, with or without the safeguards. If feedlots are going to feed SRMs or use loopholes, they'll use them whether the cows have the stars and stripes painted on their asses or maple leafs tatooed on their foreheads.

As for a fully open border, again, the risk is NIL. You guys have BSE in your herd, we've found a few cases here. You haven't tested the same percentage of animals that we have either, so get busy. Bet the results will surprise you. The rest of the world views Canada and the US as minimal risk countries. Its time to stop destroying consumer confidence in beef and truly work on promoting the industry. Let the lawyers starve and ship a few bucks to Pfizer (or pick your favorite drugco) to help them come up with a BSE vaccine or antibiotic. In the long run, it'll be money much better spent.

Oldtimer diverted this thread with one post. Gee he's good. Must have passed R-CALF boot camp with flying colors. How come no ones disputing my theory. Oh yea R-CALFers just make statements they can't refute them.

BSE is still inside the industry talk. That will not be the case if a lot of it is discovered-- in Canada or the U.S. It will also not be the case if it infects people as was the experience in Brittain. Both can be disasterous to the industry. We are currently walking that line.

BMR,
you left out another imortant agenda item, Cliff Edwards has lost the ranch and he needs a couple more big cases so he can get healed up.

I didn't know that. Funny with record high prices that R-CALF was taking credit for that he would lose the ranch now. Must have spent to much time in court and not enough back at the ranch.

Big Muddy - What is your theory? All I see is the same O Canuck "nothing has changed" babble... As far as diverting- you are worse than SH- You start a completely new thread- which I answered...That is diverting....

Don't we have a right to put up safeguards for the US cattle herd-- You Canucks did it for 10+ years :???: .........

But then it was just hunky dory- as long as it protected your calf prices...

I understand it may be his ownership interests in an airline that put him in the red-- his partner (who I attended college with) is still operating and bought many of the cattle....

Sorry BMR, don't meant to hijack your thread, but OT you still haven't answered my question from before. How are Canadian cattle preventing you from putting up your safeguards? Especially those under 30 months of age?

Do our critters run rampant through the FDA office and poke the delete buttons on everyone's computers, preventing them from closing the loopholes in your feed ban?

Dunno about the other critters going across the border, but mine have trouble with a pocket calculator, much less Microsoft Office.

If the USDA and FDA are dragging their feet on closing feed ban loopholes, then beat on them. Sue them. Write your congressman. Whatever. But closing the border certainly isn't going to get your safeguards set up any faster. All it does is causes even more independent packers to go out of business, allowing the big packers even more control over your markets and the USDA/FDA.

Did you read the suit :???: -- It is filed against the USDA because of their policies.....

I did. And it not only involves the USDA, but also involves closing the border. If you guys would reword the suit, or open a new one that simply leaves the border open, it would lend your cause some credibility. Perhaps then more producers would actually follow your cause, and you may have a chance to force some change to the rules. Continue to fight an open border as well as the USDA, and you will continue to be ridiculed, both by Canadians and your own countrymen.

It was almost nine o'clock when he posted so it was past his bedtime and he probably had been in town drinking so I just consider where it comes from. :cowboy:

You Canadians all ask why Canada is involved?

Did you ever think what started this whole thing--A Canadian cow back in May 2003- then another Canadian cow found in Washington...IF Canada did not have BSE this would be a moot point....

The US should have the same BSE safeguards that Canada has if we are going to import Canadian cattle, especially OTM's-- and the US consumer should have the ability to choose where their beef comes from.....

No it wouldn't. You seem to forget that a US case of BSE was found. So whether Canada had found BSE or not, the US would still have BSE, your exports would have still been closed down, and you'd still be fighting USDA/FDA. Find a new scapegoat.

Ever since May 2003 when this broke out, all of the Canadians and some of the US producers that post on here told you that it was only a matter of time and the US would find a case. Did R-CALF take the lead and start any action on getting your safeguards changed in the case of a US native BSE case, NO. Did they take the lead when the Washington cow was found? No. The only thing they took the lead in was blaming the whole mess on Canada and you are still doing it. When Oldtimer are you going to look at this issue and realize that the fact Canada had the first cases is the MOOT POINT NOW THAT YOU HAVE YOUR OWN BSE CASE. And the US had time to get things in order before you found your case if you would have taken the Canadian cases as a warning instead of a way to accomplish your only agenda of stopping trade. Just maybe a few more of these things would have been done if R-CALF hadn't been tying the USDA up in court with lies about the Canadian beef industry. The Canadian beef industry at least can sit back and laugh at you now as we watch you upgrade your safeguards to meet those Canada has had in place for years. Funny how R-CALF claimed we had the system with chronic problems and now you are saying The US should have the same BSE safeguards that Canada has What happen to R-CALFs claims of having the superior system Oldtimer?

Just remember Tam- You still have to ride on the US producers shirttail- passing your cheap product off as US beef to give it value--so you shouldn't wish us any harm...

How predictable the same old sorry line from the same old sorry R-CALFer that can't face the truth about your non superior system. Thanks for the laugh. Pass gas it will do you good.
