COLUMBUS, MONT. (September 29, 2005) Beartooth Stock Association, an R-CALF USA affiliate, hosted this fall's first Montana fund-raiser, and its members raised a generous $5,650 for the national organization's coffers at its annual meeting on Saturday. R-CALF USA CEO Bill Bullard was the keynote speaker and outlined both the short-term and long-term goals and objectives of the U.S. cattle industry.
Beartooth Stock Association members elected Doug Robinette (Black Canyon Corp., Billings) at the event. For the fund-raiser, Robinette kindly donated "Cecil," a South Devon steer. Bill Myers of Reedpoint won the final bid and has plans to re-sell the animal at a future R-CALF USA fund-raiser.
"I thought the fund-raiser went great for a small community," said Robinette. "R-CALF is a good organization, and that is why we support it."
"We got off to a great start, and you can definitely see the momentum behind the job R-CALF is doing when you can raise $5,650 in a small town like Columbus," commented Noel Keogh, past president of the association. "It tells me that R-CALF is on the right track, and I feel privileged that we were able to do something that will have these good, long-term positive effects in the cattle industry."
R-CALF USA President and Co-Founder Leo McDonnell said it was great to see the continued enthusiasm and support for R-CALF USA and the development of a national cattle organization that takes on the tough issues for ranchers. McDonnell also thanked members of Beartooth Stockgrowers for their leadership in hosting calf sales and helping to build membership.
"Beartooth members have always backed R-CALF with consistent, solid support," said McDonnell, "and we genuinely appreciate their contributions, whether from past fund-raisers and events, or from time and elbow grease as these tireless volunteers continue to help R-CALF accomplish its goals."
More than 100 people enjoyed a pre-dinner social hour sponsored by Yellowstone Bank, the Mandeville Agency and Beartooth Ford, as well as a lamb and beef dinner provided by the Park City Locker Plant.
