COLUMBUS, MONT. (September 29, 2005) Beartooth Stock Association, an R-CALF USA affiliate, hosted this fall's first Montana fund-raiser, and its members raised a generous $5,650 for the national organization's coffers at its annual meeting on Saturday. R-CALF USA CEO Bill Bullard was the keynote speaker and outlined both the short-term and long-term goals and objectives of the U.S. cattle industry.

Beartooth Stock Association members elected Doug Robinette (Black Canyon Corp., Billings) at the event. For the fund-raiser, Robinette kindly donated "Cecil," a South Devon steer. Bill Myers of Reedpoint won the final bid and has plans to re-sell the animal at a future R-CALF USA fund-raiser.

"I thought the fund-raiser went great for a small community," said Robinette. "R-CALF is a good organization, and that is why we support it."

"We got off to a great start, and you can definitely see the momentum behind the job R-CALF is doing when you can raise $5,650 in a small town like Columbus," commented Noel Keogh, past president of the association. "It tells me that R-CALF is on the right track, and I feel privileged that we were able to do something that will have these good, long-term positive effects in the cattle industry."

R-CALF USA President and Co-Founder Leo McDonnell said it was great to see the continued enthusiasm and support for R-CALF USA and the development of a national cattle organization that takes on the tough issues for ranchers. McDonnell also thanked members of Beartooth Stockgrowers for their leadership in hosting calf sales and helping to build membership.

"Beartooth members have always backed R-CALF with consistent, solid support," said McDonnell, "and we genuinely appreciate their contributions, whether from past fund-raisers and events, or from time and elbow grease as these tireless volunteers continue to help R-CALF accomplish its goals."

More than 100 people enjoyed a pre-dinner social hour sponsored by Yellowstone Bank, the Mandeville Agency and Beartooth Ford, as well as a lamb and beef dinner provided by the Park City Locker Plant.

Additional contributors included: Waterboy, Inc.; Sandra Peck; Bill Myers; Key O Ranch; Larry Hauge; Midland Bull Test; A.E.I.; Frontier Stockyards; Mydland Angus; Flanagan Diamond J Ranch; Bruce Yanzick; Jess and Cindy Donohoe; Grizzly Bar; Stillwater Vet Clinic; Columbus Building Center; Charlie and Cindy Green; Sherri and Chris Arnold; Marilyn Weast; Davey Farms; Coal Creek Angus; River Bend Trading; Jack Hash; Bob Kirch; Jack Ross; Corey Arnold; Doely Petroleum; Buzz Stimpson; Harrison Angus; and Cloverleaf Vet Clinic.

Didn't the same fund raiser last year raise $15,000? That looks like R-half is losing 2/3 of their support.

Typical packer mentality, who's to say the next sale wont be 10x's the money ?....................good luck

Who said anything about packers? A little touchy there aren't you?

Maybe honest cattlemen have realized they are just giving money so Bullard can travel around to swindle more money out of cattle people. Kinda pathetic when you realize how the money is spent.

If you spent as much time trying to get some packer laws passed in Canada as you do cussing R CALF,I think you would be much better off,but what the hell does an ole TX cowboy know? besides its much easier to cuss R CALF  ..............good luck

R-CALF's lawyers appreciate the money!

That's why it's called a "LEGAL FUND" and not a cattlemen's organization.

R-CALF.....the government mandate loving Democratic party of the cattle/beef industry.

What a joke the title is "R-CALF WORKING FOR THE CATTLE MAN, AGAIN" when really what the article is about is how Cattlemen are working for R-CALF to support even more lawyers retirement funds.

Now Haymaker wouldn't you think that the home town of R-CALF USA President and Co-Founder Leo McDonnell could raise a bit more? What did Midland Bull Test owned and operated by the Pres. contribute to the evening? I quess it wasn't enough beef to feed 101 people
