How do you like your 4040, I hear they are a good little tractor. Brent
we bought it new over 30 years ago to pull a baler and do some farming. Well ended up with 2 self propelled balers , so it did a little farming .It still my plowing disking drilling tractor but pulls the round baler the most....it has less then 3000 hrs..... AC works great. it has the quad shift and will slip out of C going down hill. and 1-2 and the 3-4 needs adjustment every once in awhile because it will slip back to 1 or 3... been a great tractor....

And it is probably worth almost what you paid for it. Heck, maybe it's worth more! :D

Definently more with those hours. My grandpa bought a 4440 in 1978 whith a loader. It did a lot of farming as it was a pretty good sized tractor at the time. My dad sold it probably 6 years ago and it brought more than brand new price at the auction. It had around 7000 hours. Those are pretty good tractors. Far better than their competitors in those days.

Sounds like your cab mounts have settled a little. A little adjustment
to the shift linkage will fix the shifting problems. I have a 4440 with a loader. That series of tractor was one of the best JD made.
