Kip Fladland will be in Belvidere, Nebraska on the 19th and 20th of June for a ranch roping clinic. You can bring a horse or just come to watch. If you are interested shoot me a PM and I will give you the infromation. I think it is going to be a lot of fun.

Hey S', tell us a little about who Kip is and what his background is like. I'd come but I try not to embarrass myself in public! Cept' for on here of course!

I've got some buddies are virtuousos with a sixty footer-I have to stick to a 40' cause I can't hold my coils with a 60 foot. One of the most frustrating afternoons I ever spent was helping a recent graduate(lucky they didn't have a proficiency test) lol treat about a ton Maine Anjou cow. The only horse I had handy was about a thousand pound mare-i got a head lop on here fairly quick but this guy dinked around for a long time trying out his vaquerro loops-all the while his brother circled the deal on a quad-he finally ran about thirty cows between me and the cow and I had to turn loose. I chased her down on foot and dallied her to a willow clump but he wouldn't treat her there as it was the wrong way lol. I captured her again and told him to scoop up a pair of heels or I was pointing my pony home-he did and we got her fixed up. watching guys who are good at it is pretty amazing-not much you can't do with a good horse and a good rope.

Sounds like your friend was more into form than function.

Larry the Cable Guy could give him some words of wisdom.

Sounds like any of the buckaroos I've been around, not that there prolly must be some handy ones somewhere...we've just never seemed to run across one yet :o

H, I don't know much about Kip, other than he is a Buck Brannaman student. He does have a website though it is: http://lariataranch.com/. I think there is probably something to learn from everyone. I can rope a cow on the end of a 50 footer and I can lay her down with out tripping her, but I can't throw a hip shot. While I may not need the skill I might at least be able to say I have it. Bottom line is I like to rope. Originally it was going to be a clinic put on by Curt Pate. I had committed myself way early if Curt put on the clinic. When Curt couldn't make it the guy putting toghether the clinic asked Kip. I felt like it would be pretty hypocritical of me not to stay open minded and give Kip a try (I am pretty big on people being open minded and trying new things).

Learning a few different shots has helped make my job easier. The houlihan head catch has been very useful making a standing catch. I use a back hand trap and the standard hip shot a lot in the branding pen. I learned some from Doyle Parker, watched some Ranch Roping videos, and went to Bryan Neubert's Clinic when he was in Broken Bow.
Please let us know how your clinic works out.
