I saw a guy on tv the other night named bill maher. This liberal jerk was bashing beef saying it was poison and could be fed to criminals for the death sentence. He also claimed that cattle produce over twice as much greenhouse gas a year as automobiles worldwide. This guy has his own show on hbo and has millions of fans.. scary

Only in America can anyone get away with bashing the food supply system. My generation is spoiled so bad it is embarrasing and the younget ones are even worse.
500 years ago a lot of people were vegetarians because they couldn't afford meat. Obesity wasn't a problem, getting enough food to keep the body running was.
Which will create the bigger outcry, running short on oil or running short on food? Maybe if he actually had to work for his food he would appreciate the fact that it is there, plentiful, and cheap compared to anywhere else in the world.

Obesity is a huge problem in the US. If you ever look at trend maps from the 90's to now we are at an alarming rate becoming an overweight society. 300 people a day die just because of a packing to many pounds reason. Nothing else just a weight issue. To me this is alarming.

The problem with this for our industry is the fact that if you attend some of these conferences about healthy choices and living and especially ones targeted toward school systems is they are pushing no more red meat then the size of a deck of cards. Plus they push fish at least three times a week. If the American consumer ever does decide to try and overcome health issues and follow the advice it's sure to mean less beef consumed in some areas thus affecting the quanity of beef that is moved.

Right now I'm pointing out I realize this won't mean less consumption in all areas. Some of us will always use beef as the main meat.

You don't need ' trend' maps to see the problem with FAT in this country....just sit in any parking lot and watch the people come and go. It's pitiful.

I understand there are some situations where people do gain weight from various medical conditions or medications....BUT....BUT.... putting that aside, it's amazing to see just how big the majority of people have become.

Using the word ' OBESE' is politcally correct , this according my MD!

Bill Maher says, and he's right, that the BIGGEST problem is high frustose corn syrup in everything. Yes, he's into PETA, etc..but he's right on the corn syrup issue.

I can't tell you how many times I've gone to buy clothes and can't find my size. Ask an assistant where should I look...and they look at me as if I'm from Mars and say that they don't order but one or two of sizes that small anymore as no one is that small anymore!!!

I think somebody is either confused or being less than truthful.

My point about obesity was that for the last 60+ years there has been a lot of food in this country at a very affordable price.
Before that, obesity was almost nonexistant because people worked hard and couldn't afford to put enough on the table to where everyone ate all they wanted every meal and still had some left over.

Is'nt that the guy that called the U.S. Air Force cowards for bombing Iraq?? If you eat bacon double cheese burgers with large fries and 2 gallons of Coke how can you blame beef if your a$$ is 4' wide?

Can't say as I really care for the guy either.. One thought on being fat to me it isn't that people don't so much over eat as much as it is they don't do any thing... Seriously how many (city) people pick up a pitch fork or a shovel and acctually do sme manual labor?? Rather they go to a fitness club and get exercise that way. LIfe is just to good for us. My father ate what he wanted and as much as he wanted most all his life and never weighed over 210lbs. He did I should correct and say sort of watch his diet for his chlorestoral (sp) for the last 10-15 yrs. He stayed as active as he could and his health was solid all the way to the end. If it wasn't for a blood clot from a knee replacement I don't know how many years he could've went on past 80.. :( Sorry for the rant but it drives me crazy to see over weight people who park in the closest spot to the door and order super size meals...

The biggest problem for folks is being inactive. Sittin on mass transit, sittin at "work" all day and sittin in front of the tube till layin out for the night. I'd go crazy without breakin a sweat 12 or so times a day. I eat meat everynight except when i have to eat chicken. But i work 9 hours a day and chore morning and night. Chores require pitchin hay, draggin a hose to water, choppin ice, splittin wood and packin it to the house, ect... (Just like most of ya'll) Throw in hayin season, calving season, bring in wood for the winter, fencing, moving cows, checking salt, water, fences, chasing mule deer and elk in October and playin with the family and it's a wonder i havent keeled over from exhaustion. City folks have my sympathy. But if they move out here i'm leaving!

Another problem is the fact that now buying bigger in a lot of cases when it comes to food is cheaper. Plus we are a society more on the go where quick and easy meals rule. Also this society is turning into a screen society: t.v., computer, and the many games out on the market.

We fatten people on the same diet we fatten cattle on...grain and grain products. It's called the Western Diet!!!!!
Food ain't food...calories ain't calories...the Western Diet ain't the Traditional Diet we developed our genes on!

I still park as close to where I'm going as possible but not due to being lazy - - - - I feel I need to keep an eye on my truck.

Its terrible if I go to Indianapolis I always put my 38 in a leg holister and a 9mm in a sholder holster. I would hate to shoot someone over my truck but with the car jackings I will defend myself. I made sure my wife and children know proper weapon safety and are good shots and have their permits but I feel much better staying away from population centers where a large portion of the people don't work and stealing and murder hit the news on a daily basis.
