Alabama, first thank you for helpfully posting back on Feb 14 in detail how to use Photobucket.com. Also I'd somehow missed seeing the photo of you yourself! That was neat! Also the picture of your cattle against the white landscape. very arty, aren't you. It would be wonderful to see more of your area- anything. Fields, rocks, gardens, great!

(Why is it nobody ever asks for pictures of naked men?)
Just wondering...

Amazing you're on to your second planting of beans already.
That's what is so interesting about perspectives on the Ranchersnet- this continent has such varied areas: Hanta's is choked with dust, we have flooding ; looks like many of you have heavily wooded areas while Big Muddy Rancher asks, "What is a tree? "

Ranchwife, how did the planting go? Is it growing yet?

been raining here all day and it's growing well.....even "nuking" it did not seem to kill it!! growing like crazy....loving the rain!! maybe tomorrow will get the chance to plant the yukon gold potatoes and the strawberry plants!!! will let you all know!!

TXTibbs, we're envious of you having ripe tomatoes already! Enjoy those BLT's. We only have open flowers on the vines. Maybe it is time to try some of that red plastic mulch.
At Rancher's suggestion we just got a feline mole extinguisher. He said his do in 3-4 moles/day. We're hoping!

Ranchwife, I'll be eager to hear about your strawberries. Ours are bearing heavily, large, red and well formed now BUT aren't all that sweet. Have to add sugar for them to taste like strawberries which doesn't seem right somehow. Anybody out there recommending a SWEET strawberry by name and not prone to molding?
Thanks for all the help I can count on from this net.

I am on my second planting of beans as my first planting was a very poor stand.

In that heat you should have let them sit. :D

I am talking about butter beans and I plante them early and we hat a cool snap so only about 1/3 came up and those that did the leaves curled up. So I turned them over and planted some more.
You see I could not take a chance on the butter beans. They were planted at my girlfrinds request so everthing else can dry up but I have got to make a crop of butter beans and sweet corn. It helps to have somthing to trade.
By the way my field corn is putting on ears, I noticed yesterday. The sweet corn is chest high and should start making any day now. I can't wait. The first ear of sweetcorn every year is just too good. It is almost as good as the first tomato. Yes, when I pull the first sack of sweet corn that is all I will have for dinner. Aboout 15 ears of corn with butter and salt and pepper. Just 3 to 4 weeks to wait.

You must have a couple long hollow legs to eat that many! sounds delicious though. Eat up! I feel sorry for Europe where they don't eat sweet corn.

Ranchwife, forgot to ask you what kind of strawberries you planted. Am eager to hear if they're really sweet.
