Range and Hay conditions

Lots of hay in this area. We have alfalfa that will make 5+ tonnes per acre and a Brome stand that is "supposed to be pasture" but got away will make 6+ Tonnes per acre. Best hay crop ever in this area and pastures are getting away on the cows and then they get fussy. We ve got hayfields we cant cut because it is to wet. I feel for yall that are getting dried out. We ve been there and its no fun!!

We baled 1st. cutting alfalfa/clover about 3 weeks ago & it ran about 3.5ton/acre. We've gotten about 3.5" more rain than usual with some pretty hot weather though. Second cutting should go in about 2 weeks & generally drops to about 2.75 ton/acre.

Southcentral North Dakota. Talked to NW this morning, average rainfall for year should be 9.25", right now at 6.25", just west of us 30 miles has received only 2.95" this year. Cows on trucks are about all that are moving, no hay, crops to short to cut.

Last I had heard... Gottsch Feedyard was paying 85 a ton for alfalfa.. but.. And haven't heard what straw is going for... Sure is a lot getting baled around here this year though..
