A few weeks ago, a rancher in Colorado loaded 29 fat open cows in a cattle pot and headed towards the auction.

The truck got less that a quarter mile before it crossed some railroad tracks -- at the same time as a coal train .

Truck was destroyed, 19 cows killed outright three more had to be destroyed.

Saddest was that the truck was a private carrier and was not insured to carry for others, so no cargo insurance.

Not sure how this is going to work out, but it can't be good.

The surviving cows won't go anywhere near the railroad tracks now!!

cargo insurance is a MUST... we rolled a hay truck two weeks ago...cargo insurance will cover losses, clean up, man hours, loader hours, fire squad , ems.... the whole works.

Neighbor guy is pretty cheap. Couple years ago he had another neighbor haul a load of weigh ups to the salebarn. Guy somehow managed to kill 5 or 6 and he didn't have cargo insurance. Even with Farm plates, I carry cargo insurance if I haul for anyone else.

Here you can't haul for anyone else with farm plates. I pay the extra $85 a year to not have the hassle.

Ya aren't supposed to here either. There are only 3 people that I will haul for, and they are close neighbors.
