We spent a little while at the Black Hills Stock Show last Friday. Here is a picture of a nice looking horse that got no saled thru their sale that day. Last bid was 4700$ I think.

Here are a few more pictures I took on Sunday.

Nice pictures, Tap. This will be the first year for a long time that I will not get to the Stock Show. I almost went up yesterday, but am glad I didn't. A heifer acted like she was calving in the morning, and I checked her again in the late afternoon. (They are not supposed to start for another month.) She had not done anything yet, so I came back home and hauled my horse the two miles to where she was trying to have a calf. I parked the trailer on the end of two rows of hay bales, and got her loaded by myself. Brought her home to put her in the barn to check her. She was not dialated at all, so I had a hard time getting my hand in. One foot was back, but I got it straightened out. The calf was a premie, and dead, but I got it pulled out and at least saved the heifer. Had I gone to the stock show, it might not have turned out so good.

I forgot to mention, I was the only one holding down the fort. Saddletramp was in Iowa on a poetry gig, and Peach Blossom and the Kosmo Kid were in Sheridan, Wyoming, checking out the college.

I like the looks of the country where you ranch. Lots of good hard grass and a lack of human population makes for good cattle country. :-)
