Was that TXTibbs? Because the member with the username Tex was actually a retread of Econ101, the former Tyson grower that used to post in Bull Session back in the good old days. So many members have come and gone, mostly gone. That's an interesting article, thanks for sharing, FH.
 
Interesting to catch up,

My brother in law worked the North slope 45 plus years ago when Tammy and I were dating and first married before they moved to Alaska. Bet it's a little more civilized up there now compared to back then.

I can't remember his correct 'handle' on this forum, but he's definitely NOT TxTibbs.
And I know he's no way connected with Tyson. Maybe I can find him by going back through old posts, or maybe it will come to me. (But probably not. :) )

This fellow is from Texas but came to Wyoming years ago. Dabbled in the cow business, that's why he posted here, but mostly he is a welder. Had a lot of trouble with his back, if I recall correctly. We have actually met him.

My dad worked the North Slope too. He was a cat skinner (heavy equipment operator is what he told me to say) in Alaska. He helped build the pioneer roads that they took the equipment in on to build the highway. This is a photo of dad in Alaska. He had to make a road down to the creek. He said "I was the first one to poke a hole in that rock."
Dad, gone, but not forgotten.

Okay, I think you're talking about tumbleweed_texn, is that him? He used to sign his posts 'Tex' and I think he did settle in Wyoming.

Always love seeing that old pic of your dad on the dozer. That was back when men were men and they weren't scared of anything. That's a really cool pic.

Thanks, Texan. You are right, Dad wasn't scared. Someone asked him if he was when he was working on that rock and he said "if you are scared, you shouldn't be there." I like that picture too. If you look close you can see him sitting in the cat. He loved those D-8's.
He did a lot of grader work too. He loved it, every bit of it. And in the early years, there were no cabs on the cats. He'd come home pretty dirty and couldn't wait to go out the next day.

Tumbleweed Texan seems right. I just don't remember things as I used to.
 
My Dad was also a cat operator at the local level. One thing I always understood was that if whatever you
were pushing with that blade suddenly disappeared, you stopped immediately, because you were out of
ground. That is the first thing that came to mind when I looked at that picture.
