Rhino or Gator?

Thanks everyone- the only thing holding me back on a Polaris Ranger is the nearest dealer is about 200 miles away in any direction...Sure like the service my Yamaha/Honda dealer gives... I guess Honda has a new model coming out- but the dealer said they won't fit between the wheel wells of a pickup bed like the Rhino will...

My problem is we have 3 places/pastures all 15 miles apart- and sometimes have pasture leases in other places- and I need something I can easily throw in a horse trailer and/or load in pickup box when I go fencing or checking cows... The only one I see that will do that is the Rhino (or smaller Ranger)...

I know a guy that builds trailers suited for the job.

Yeah that's what my son said I need...

Along that line- yesterday I was talking with my cousin- and I was telling how I sure like the 3 gates in our 24 footer stock trailer but wished the front section was a little bigger... It will fit my Honda rancher- but I have to turn it sideways to get the gate closed...
He said there is a stock trailer that is on the market now with the three gates- with the front gate being movable so you can make the front section larger or smaller to fit something like that...Also the escape door was wider so you could load a 4 wheeler ATV in it....
Have you seen those...

Ranger will probably be my next utv, just gotta get used to the contemporary look.
Kawasaki mules are good machines just too slow.
And I believe my next one will be gas.
Good luck

Our stock trailers are 6' 8" wide, and the bigger Polaris Rangers fit in very easily. We just drive forward until the front bumper of the Ranger touches the front of the trailer, engage the emergency brake, and get out through the escape door. This all works very easily without a cab on the Ranger, and might not work as well if it had a cab. We don't need any ties with the enclosed stock trailers.

Like this. We've built quite a few like this the last few years. First two went to a Ranch in Canada and after that about every other one gets the big door. Double setting's on center gates is quite common here.

What does a 26 or 28 foot stock trailer cost set up that way? 2 gates with the front movable.

We haul a six wheel and a four wheel ranger both with cabs as well as sometimes a quad in sideways in our stock trailer. We are considering a hitch to pull another trailer behind the trailer so we can put some cattle onboard and still take a ranger along for the other end. Kind of pushing the limit of the law on length or it would be done by now.

TRIPLE AXEL 28' $11500.00

Denny---triple axles very popular? Everybody I ever heard mention them, cussed them.

I have had 5 of them over my lifetime, and have never had a single problem with them. The flatbed I have now, needs a set of axles under it, but it was manufactured in 73, and they used mobile home axles under it. Even with 14 ply, lowboy tires on it, I can only haul about 15000 pounds. My old flatbed, I used to load 24000 of salt on it, with a 1ton Ford in front of it, and drive 300 miles back home. Wasn't at all safe. Didn't have NEAR enough brakes, or truck, but I did it regular.
My big stock trailer, needs another axle under it, but when I got it, the price was right, so I ended up with tandem 7000 pound axles under a 26 ft trailer. Kind of a waste of trailer, but like I said the price was right.
I have pulled tandem duals, under a couple of borrowed trailers, and I thought they were the hardest pulling things ever. I WON'T own one!!!
With the triples, you just don't want to turn on a dime, loaded!!

Your experience with tandem duals and triples is the exact opposite of mine. I won't have more than 2 axles unless I need the third to meet highway weight limits. I am on my second tandem dual flatbed and looking at 24' or 26' stock trailer with tandem axles only.

Pretty popular. The problem started with mobile home axel trailer's thats where the bad rap came from. Tandem duals will have more stability tire capacity larger brakes more tires bigger bearings and cost more and the do pull a bit harder I like either one both of my own trailers are triple axels. I do prefer a tandem dually flatbed for hauling hay off fields they don't cut in wheel tracks.

I have had 2 gooseneck livestock trailers and one gooseneck tag ( bull dozer ) trailer with 3 axels and never had a problem - - - love the extra space between the wheel wells.

I still own one of the livestock trailers ( 30'X7' box + a 7'X7' neck on a W&W ) and the gooseneck tag trailer.

I also have 2 pintle hitch tag trailers one with dual tandems and one tri axel - - - If you don't need to be below the top of the tires they are fine but you need to keep an eye on the inner duals. I like the tri axels better as the tires are easier to maintain just don't turn sharp when loaded but I try to avoid that even with the dual tandems.

I am going to bid on a tri axel dual tandem pintel hitch tag trailer on the 29th as it has a 30 ton rating and I could then pull an excavator with a dump truck instead of a semi with my detachable drop deck.

I am converting my dump trucks to "Super Singles" as they don't get stuck near as easy and they don't drag near as much mud onto the road.

Hauling hay I hook the dual tandem ( air brakes ) behind a dump truck and the tri axel ( electric brakes ) behind it and I can pull 22 round bales at a time and I can put 2 bales in the bed if needed. This puts me right at the 70' maximum legal length.

The trailer I'm going to try to buy should carry 17 bales at a time 12 on the bottom and 5 in the middles.

Hate to bring up an old subject but if some are looking Yamaha has a new one out called a Viking. It is more along the size of a ranger. Looks like a wale of a better machine than the rhino. Goes faster hauls more and better running gear on it. They left the price the same as the old rhino. Which tells me i have really getting hosed on the price of the rhino. They are bringing one out to try next week for me. I have high hopes for it but I really like dads ranger so we will see. The Yamaha dealer is way better than Polaris here other wise would just get a ranger.
