I love the pic of your dad....them seniors are awfully special people :)

I kind of like your new horse too, Soapweed. I see you have a son with the same invincibility as mine. He stands on his horse regularly to look over the slab fences or to talk to someone in the next pen.

hey soap
i'm not much on paints but your's looks to be alright
he looks like he might have had a nice little hump in back in the round corral
but he looks like he should travel alright and i bet that means alot in your country
until later

I been waitin on a name......you always come up with nifty names for yer critters....... See his brand is 2Z (Toozie) LOL

So far I've been calling him "To Zee or Not To Zee, That is the Question." :-) But that is kind of long. In the sale catalog, his nickname was "Brandy," and his registered real name is "Inta Da Brandy" which is rather catchy.

I bought a four-year-old Paint gelding in 1974, and he was one of the best horses of my lifetime. I kept him for fourteen years, and when he was eighteen years old I traded him to a family for a completely restored two-seated buggy. Their daughter used him for barrel racing and 4-H activities for a few more years. I alway called that Paint, "My Spotted Horse." That's as far as giving him a name ever got.

Soap, I'm thinking the reason your dad happened to be so handy for a picture, he probably topped off the colt before you went to the pasture. If 2Z is 16 h then Brocks sorrel must be close to the same. I am wondering how old your dad is and how long since he's been horseback ? I have a friend from Cassoday, KS who's dad rode regularly well into his 80's.

hello soap
i have been told all my life that it's a bad omen to change a horses name
so i think i would call him "brandy" myself
just my 2 cents worth
he still looks like he could be a nice horse

peg
the call name
soapweed wrote that in the sale catalog it had his call name as brandy

when i buy a horse i always ask if he has a name and if so i use that one
when i was working on ranches that provided the horses the jigger boss would tell you the name of the horse when he roped him out and gave him to you
until later

Two years ago my dad borrowed my good old gentle horse, Tom Cat, to rope and drag calves at our branding. Dad was 82 at the time, and Tom Cat was 23 years old. I figured that between the two of them, there was 105 years of solid ranching experience. They brought quite a few calves to the branding fire that morning, and both did a good job. I think that was the last time that Dad has been horseback. He did a lot of riding through the years, mostly in the line of duty. In more recent years, we talked him into going on a few trail rides, but he just didn't feel useful riding a horse without a herd of cows stretched out in front of him.
