Being the family historian, I've traced almost all of my roots back to Argyle, Skye, and Edinburgh. My Dad's family have a joke that we were kicked out for stealing sheep, but I haven't found any evidence yet.
Mom's family were from near Edinburgh.
I do know that the first member of my Dad's family to ever show up in official Scottish records was in a court report! It was way way back, and he was one of a bunch that were pardoned after attacking the McLeans, burning their crops, and stealing their cattle. Apparantly the head of the McLean clan didn't want his wife any more so he chained her to a rock out in the loch to wait for the tide to come in and drown her. Well wouldn't you know it, but a couple of men from her family came by and found her, so the fight was on!
Scottish history is full of such stories, and I for one find it fascinating.
One day, some how, I will get to Scotland. 8) 8)
