ringworm/sores

Being the family historian, I've traced almost all of my roots back to Argyle, Skye, and Edinburgh. My Dad's family have a joke that we were kicked out for stealing sheep, but I haven't found any evidence yet. :D :D Mom's family were from near Edinburgh.

I do know that the first member of my Dad's family to ever show up in official Scottish records was in a court report! It was way way back, and he was one of a bunch that were pardoned after attacking the McLeans, burning their crops, and stealing their cattle. Apparantly the head of the McLean clan didn't want his wife any more so he chained her to a rock out in the loch to wait for the tide to come in and drown her. Well wouldn't you know it, but a couple of men from her family came by and found her, so the fight was on!

Scottish history is full of such stories, and I for one find it fascinating.

One day, some how, I will get to Scotland. 8) 8)

Someone did the work for us, lol, tracing back at least and the family, at least part of it, came from the Isle of Skye.. Forgot the Murchison's as well, don't know how I could, that was Great Grandpa's middle name after all.

Someone back there gambled away the family lands and title is all that we got out of it, than they all became drunks and thiefs and eventually were asked to leave.. That stort we got from my Grandmother.. That, and her dad changed the last name from McEwen to MacEwen because he didn't want to get confused with those darn Irish McCunes... Apparently, Great Grandpa wasn't a fan of the Irish, lol....Oh,and now my neighbor is a McCune, lol.

Well I wouldnt mind another clear out of villains, country could do with it right now. Love the stories, thanks. Thank goodness divorce has come on since putting someone in a loch.

I see you both have Skye ties, fab place to visit, lots of climbers real beautiful mountains over there, getting a lot of incomers living on the islands these days, not so popular with the locals. A lot of the young folk leave the islands these days as well, mainland beckons with the promise of streets paved with a gold.

Two questions:
1) Where do most of the Scots stand on breaking away from England? We were trying to figure out how that could ever benefit Scotland and how much support that movement really has. Our media tends to blow everything out of proportion for the story.
(Maybe I should have slid this political question into the Bull Session Forum and expect somebody who was toilet trained too early will give me flack )
2) Have you read your Scot countryman Rory Stewart's book The Place In Between about his hiking across Afghanistan mountains in the winter with his dog? What a guy! What a writer! What a dog! Another great accomplishment of Scotland, aside from producing IL Rancher's brawling thieving ancestors, was producing a Rory Stewart.

I wouldnt even attempt to answer for any of my fellow scots, however my own personal opinion is we will never break away from England as long as we are pumping oil out of the North sea, Tony Blair needs the revenue. We do have our own parliament now, but most of the important decisions are still taken in westminster. With 5 millions scots, and 55 million english, think we will be together for some time yet.

Sorry, to let myself down but I have never heard of Rory Stewart, but the book sounds great, gonna try to find a bit more about it. Will tell you how I get on. Thanks
