Here are da prices most tanneries are payin.
4'=$2 per ft
5'=$4 per ft
6'=$6 per ft
7'=$8 per ft
8'=$12 per ft
10'and bigger =$16 per ft
Theres no bounty on them. You have to put in for tags, pay for a lease to hunt. Prices have been bad the last few years due to alligator farms down here flooding the market with hide.
Oldtimer- im not on the show, but i do know Troy very well. His lease borders my friends that i help during the season.
Justin--I just pray that ya'll like the feel of gator boots and keep buying them. I wont wear anything else, gotta try to keep the price up for them some kind of way. that 12 footer will prolly only make about 20 belts and 10 pairs of boots. The rest of the hide is used for many other things, like vests and things like that.
Jersey- I only clean one gator per year, the first one(as long as its about 7 foot). it takes us about 3 hours to clean one from start to finish. The rest of the gators go to the buyers and once we collect, we never see them again.

Isn't he the guy that yells " Choot'em....choot'em...choot'em"?? Never knew so much went into 'gator' hunting before.... Pretty cool deal....I'd take something bigger than a .22 though...

I really like the fact that these families take pride in their lifestyle despite all the danger...they're no different than a cattle rancher...take pride in our lifestyle and hope to pass the tradition on to family. They are the "cowboys" of swamp!
