Are you talking about the original Rito 707 from back in the 70's?
 
A little off topic maybe, but Brooks Angus had their bull sale on Superior today, and it seemed a little off from what I thought it should be. I only caught the tail end of the bulls, but lots were under 2000/hd. They use quite a little of that RR genetics, I believe. The market on the heavier calves was sure in the tank this last few days. St. Onge had some 8 wt. heifers that brought in the high 80's. :mad:

Tap- The yearling heifers I saw sell at the beginning of the Brooks sale sold pretty good $850-$1000 range- saw a couple of the registered ones sell -- they were in the $1500-1600 range....Some of the first bulls did pretty good with several $3000-4000 bulls-- but like you said I then caught the tailend and there were some fair bulls selling for $1500-1700....

Rolling Rock/Hinmans are having their sale Tuesday on Superior......

Right now the market is looking awful shakey and questionable to be paying too much for calves-- I know some of the banks are really tightening up with the money for buying any type of cattle....
 
The Rito F0203 I really like and I like the PB707's so I think RR707 would be something to dang sure look into.

We have kept Rito bloodlines in our cattle right up to the last few years and I will say they have explosive growth as calves. We have lost a little of that now, I would say. We used Rito 054, Rito 2100, Rito Rito, Rito 9J9, and some others.

We have a F0203 that we bought from Kit Pharo just because of his bloodlines.

I remember Dale Davis being asked as part of an article what the best bull he ever raised was and he said, Rito 707. I was impressed with that because Dale Davis has had a lot of really good bulls.

I had the tv on and watched the heifers sell, but missed all the bulls. Tap, I have a catalog and I don't see the RR breeding there. What I see is lots of Precision and New Design, which turn me off. There are 6I6's, Right Times and 6807 which I tend to like a lot better. But that is just me.

I was only at Brooks sale once, and I thought there was sure a bottom end to them at that time. But they have a respected cowherd.

What did the horses bring, Tap?
 
They averaged $2953 on a 183 bulls there were 6 they could'nt get a bid on.the first 99 bulls averaged $3590 but the bottom 84 were $2201.I have a bad cold so guess what I did all day....
 
I have five 6I6 two year old heifers and they are going to be good cows from the looks of things. They all sttled first service AI and have excellent udders with plenty of milk. I was a little dissappointed in them as yearlings but wish I had more of them as two year olds. I guess the value of him is his daughters.
 
I guess I stand corrected on the RR genetics FH. I could have swore Brooks used to use them. Wasn't RR 9409 the real thick meaty bull that had Scotch Cap in his background? I thought Brooks used that bull in their ads just a few years ago. We haven't bought a bull from them for fifteen years, so don't get the catalog anymore.

I didn't see the horses sell. I don't know if they were on the video part of it or not.

Getting a very nice rain here this morning, and 44 degrees.

I ordered mine as rain. :wink:

Yes OT. Thank you for your reply FH. Have a few vials of old semen. Trying for a bull to equal (or better) Rito 707, am curious to what cow (or cow type) ranchers.net members would AI 707 to.
Any traits 707 had that you don't like. The good and the bad. OK, fire away... I'm listening.........
 
Well, lets see, Rito 707 would be moderate and a good female maker. If I had the semen I would use him on something like that. Breed like to like, don't try to correct something because it takes forever, but if you breed like to like you will extend the likeness and it will be dependable with no holes. That's my opinion. We do too many things wrong and then try to 'fix' the errors. Don't make them in the first place, would be my suggestion.

Rito 707 is too old to wow anyone with EPD numbers, but he has many desirable traits to produce problem free cattle and outstanding females.

Dependable solid genetics...isn't that what we all want? No suprises!
 
Cdn- You might want to go over to this website and get on their message board-- made up of almost all Angus people-- some with a lot of years experience probably have used R R Rito 707...Also check the search on the board there as they have talked over about every angus bull known in the past......

You might want to contact Jorgensen's in Ideal SD.
They had a son from RR Rito 707 in there sale a few years ago.
Also, that semen might be worth a bit more than a pretty penny.

I like 6I6 for some other reasons to. DISPOSITION is the big one. I have helped a friend sort some calves from a 6I6 son. They were so dang easy to handle. He also has some pretty decent Carcass traits, moderate Birthwieght and decent growth,
